So, I bought a new ride. Picked up a 1997 FZJ80 with just over 149000 on the clock. LOCKED. So excited for this find. Actually did my homework and looked over the truck really well. It was covered in snow from a storm we had a day or two ago. Seller was an awesome dude for working with me on the price. I think $5000 is fair. Pics or it didn't happen right?

Inside is in pretty good shape

But the front seats are pretty worn out. They do however move in all directions with the CORRECT input from the switches. Something I can't enjoy on the Beat up beast.

Plenty of time left on this baby. nearly 80,000 less than the current cruiser.

What is k294?

New parts goodness. Thanks Beno

Key Fob - Easiest Fix

Hey There,

Great truck! And good value. That's a good find and that price. It looks great.

The key fob is an eBay item, you can get 2 for $29. Just search of eBay. I bought an aftermarket keyless entry for mine there, which I was able to easily program with the included instructions. Very simple fix. Make sure you have the black box under the driver's seat first.

Have fun with your new rig!

What's in the box? What's in the box? (Seven reference)

A bunch of PM stuff. Gaskets, seals, hoses, belts. Oh and an OEM hand throttle.

lemme guess, California ?

Bought it from a guy that lives near oakhurst. Works in the Yosemite national park. Infancy the title had his address as a PO box there. The carfax checks out for the mileage and so far atmfter seeing it on a lift the bottom is in much better shape than my 96 which spent about 10-12 years in the northern Midwest.

Oakhurst!? That's where I grew up. Such a small town, it's crazy how often I hear about it.
Anyways back to the topic at hand: Good lookin cruiser!

So after the PM is caught up on (really never) what is the order of upgrades? I have all this stuff that I want to do but I'm not sure what order to do it in. Right now I have a box of parts from Beno sitting in my garage but I need my wife to hurry up and have her garage sale so I can get the cruiser in there and get to work. Here's what I have planned for PM right now:
1. Valve cover gasket
2. Spark Plug Tube Gaskets
3. Dizzy O-ring
4. Front Main Seal
5. Oil pump cover seal
6. PS pump rebuild
7. Silicon PHH
8. Oil Pan FIPG
Future PM
1. Fix AC (soon, Should be Cheap)
2. Front axle rebuild (when doing regear) Brakes front a rear at the same time. Looking at Jonesy’s rebuild kit
3. Bang dent out of tail gate
I’ve already replaced the belts, PCV Hose, grommet and valve, as wells as other odds and ends. I’ll be getting up under the truck to check the u-joints and all the other stuff under the truck while it’s in the garage. Currently I’m looking for some cheap 285 AT’s to slap on the truck for now. As far as Upgrades I’m in the middle of replacing the speakers right now and I’ve installed an AOE front bumper. I have a lot of stuff sitting around but I’m not sure what order to do it. Here’s the order of operations I have planned out right now.
1. Deflare, Derack, Destep fill holes (weld) and paint (for now)
2. Insulation while interior is out (http://www.lobucrod.com/)
3. Monstaline two tone Burnt Orange and White (Flashy I know but who cares, Hook ‘Em)
4. Reroute exhaust over the frame the way nature intended. Will have to add CARB compliant front cat as the one on there isn’t legal and smog tech warned me that it may not pass in a couple years if someone else does it. (PRK is beautiful but is ran by morons)
5. Sliders (Metal Tech or OPOR) and Skid Plate (BIOR)
6. Dual swing out 4x4 labs Bumper with Buddy made tire carrier and Jerry Can Rack.
7. Dual Batteries (have a lot of stuff. Does anyone have pics of the Slee bracket? I have some aluminum just sitting in my garage that I can bend up at work) Have 12volt guy dual batt and winch panel but need to find a place to put it.
8. Winch (Engo 12K synthetic line) may install sooner but I want to wait until the 2nd battery is in.
9. OBA- I have the York and all the stuff I need except a tank.
10. Rear storage. My buddy is a cabinet maker and can do this in CAD and with a CNC to cut all the pieces.
11. Weigh the truck and get good numbers and call Slee about a 4 inch lift that will work with all the weight. May add a roof rack if I find the right one later but I don’t think the weight will matter much.
12. After lift take 3rd members out and send them off for 4.88’s
13. Add some 35’s and call it a day
I’m hoping to have most, if not all, of this stuff done by the end of the year. Do any of you think this is out of order or is there anything else that I should take care of? I have more PM to do along the way as I get to different parts of the build. I think all of these things should give me a great rig in the end. There will be some small electrical upgrades along the way as well for lights and what not.

I am not a fan of deflaring, but that's just me :meh:

and I definitely hate liners on the outside of a truck

If you're going to be having the BIOR skid shipped you may want to consider his sliders too. They're stout and you'll likely save on shipping compared to ordering from separate companies.

Good idea. I'll look into that. Where do they operate out of?

I believe Mike is in Colorado. I had him build bumpers, sliders, and the skid. The shipping quote for all of it wasn't much more than for just sliders. Mind you it was all bare metal and stacked on a pallet.

Advanced happy april fools day!!:flipoff2: K924 doesn't exist I just switched the #s around :D

To the OP PM "arcteryx" he will have your vent grille

Saw that coming!

NICE FIND! A little work and bed liner and you are set!

Unfortunately for me when they installed the security system they hacked the CDL harness and cut the plug. They also just jammed the alarm controller up under the dash. Not that big a thing but I was hopping for plug and play. As far as electric locks do not mess around with EBAY, contact CDAN and have him dig up the right controller for you, other wise you are just rolling the dice and hopping to get the right fob. Ask me how I know... :bang:

I ripped a flare off of my 96 my first time wheeling it. I backed over the mud flap. Don't ask how that happen. Liner is an easy and cost effective way to hide the body work done on the holes and stands up to rubbing better than paint. My 96 has all sorts of custom pinstripping.
