I haven't posted any updates in a while, but nothing much new with the 40. Mostly enjoying it for what it was built for! I can't wait to get the trailer finished so I can actually have room for camping gear! I still feel very fortunate to live where we do. All of these pictures we taken within 5 miles of our house!

Here are some pictures from the last couple months. Good times with @allan man and his awesome 40 and 80!

And now for the trailer progress-

Dave @lcwizard was kind enough to make me some custom tail light guards that were the exact same design as the guards on my 40, just a couple inches shorter for my trailer lights. They came out perfect! Thanks Dave!

Rolling trailer! (kind of)-

I found a tongue box I thought I'd use, but after looking at it, I'll just make my own. There are a few things I don't like about it that I can fix with my own design.

Making fenders from scratch. They are the same angle/width/height of my 40's rear fender openings-

I made the trailer tongue removable so I could fit he trailer and 40 in one my garage parking spots! It fits with about 2" to spare!

Excellent work!

@jetranger Bitchin build-is your 40 featured in the sackwear shirts? It looks just like the Hells Canyon shirt...................... Maybe I am wrong but thought I would ask.

@jetranger your wife even helps you trim trail-so cool!!! Does she have a sister???? Trailer looking awesome, super attention to the little things. What kind of mileage do you get with the motor swap? Did you have to modify any of the stock mounting location/shrouds on grill to run the JW Speaker lights? I am considering buying some for my forty but don't want to have to cut away anything......................

Now that you've got all that extra water, I really recommend these

Eccotemp L5 Portable Tankless Water Heater and Outdoor Shower - Portable Hot Water Heater - Amazon.com

I have an 11 lb propane tank. I have not had to refill it in three years, four long trips in excess of 5 days and a dozen three day trips,
two to five people per trip washing up. It's quite efficient

I have this shower and it rocks. We picked it up when my wife was pregnant and she loves it.

Thanks for the recommendation! I have been eyeing those on Amazon... I can't believe how cheap they are! My only thoughts on the subject are: my wife and I are definitely fair weather campers. If the lows are in the 50's, there's a good chance we aren't going! And we typically do 1 or 2 night trips. We can get by without taking a shower for that timeframe. As much as I'd love to have hot water, I'm just not positive we'd need it! But, maybe it's better to have it and not need it.....

No sisters... sorry!

I get 15mpg with the 4.7. The best I've got was 16 on a road trip, and the worst was 13 when off road. It's pretty consistent 15 though, with city and highway mix.

I had to modify the buckets because the lights are shallower but fatter. Not a big deal, you can get more buckets pretty easily! I just had to enlarge the hole by about an inch. It worked out perfect though, because my radiator is so large that goes behind my headlights, and it would definitely hit them if they were deep halogens.

So I take it the Speaker lights made a big difference in illumination and clarity? Do you also have a wider visible area as well. I need better lighting but don't want to mod my wiring. A Moded bucket would be no big deal. Thanks for the reply.

If you're comparing them VS stock halogens, there really is no comparison. They are as good or better than brand new cars will an LED/projector setup. They only pull about 3 amps, they don't get hot, they're totally sealed (submersible), and the cut off line is sharp. Comparing stock headlights to these is apples to oranges.

Here you go-

@jetranger thanks! have to find out what part number the buckets are so I can buy a pair and have one set moded for Speakers. So I take it the opening at the back of the bucket needs to be opened up?

Would you happen to have any pictures of the radiator mounting to your frame? I'm considering changing to a wider radiator and looking for ideas as to how I could do it. Thanks for a very detailed thread and a great build!!

Cheers!

Yes, but not by much. Maybe 1/4-1/2".

Cheers!

I will see if I can find any. I don't remember taking any, but it was pretty easy. I just used some 2x2 square tubing on the top of the OEM radiator supports, then attached my radiator to that.

Thanks!

Looks awesome! Are you going to put a flip top tent on the top? Gas cans on the sides?

Thank you!

Yes, ARB tent, ARB awnings (2), ARB fridge on slide out, stove on slide out, 2 Rotopax fuel cans on the front, 20g water tank under.

One of the other advantages of the tankless water heater is hot water for dishes or other kitchen needs.
