Or is the plan to weld the flat sheet metal to the tubing and get a seal that way. sorry if i missed this earlier. cheers.
cheers chappy

This one, thanks Chappy!

go for the welding then, and try to get the garage up to temp, or heat each area first, but that can be a pain too. i understand that for sure. but you know either way is good... hmmmmm .... i would have to sit and stare at the trailer and have a few brews to get the full solution, hahhahahha

Drew, not to hijack, but where did you source the rivnuts and how expensive was the "setting tool"?

Thanks,

ed

Local hardware store, looks just like a rivet gun... has different attachments but they look the same. The tool with 5 mandrels was about 25ish bucks, the little inserts are like 50 cents a pop, but they are priceless when you really need them. I'll get the name of the tool for you, it slips me now.

Hope it helps.

seriously this thread is sick.......you got me thinking of the next project.....way to up the antee. This makes my m101 lid look like childs play. Keep the pics coming...I need pictoral motivation.

ive been debating this myself have you looked into the 3m double stick stuff? i know it sounds dumb but major buildings are using it to place panels on building and its designed to be water tight, and resistant to the elements. would be a quick easy way to skin a trailer

I bleieve this product is called VHB tape... I remember seeing a test using this tape and it held better than pop rivets. Not sure if it will work on this application but pretty strong stuff non the less..

I think you have damn near no excuse now to weld that bugger up. It's 63° here in Longmont!!! Close enough IMO to 70°. :flipoff2:

True, but a guys still got to work! :D

Ever have one of those days where a project just kick your butt... Sunday was that day for me. Four hours after I started, a measly 6 holes that were drilled wouldn't line up, seriously.

Here is where I ended up... impressive, I know :D basically a sheet of 14ga laying on the frame.

Also, I think I am just going to weld it up the other sheets on. There are some great products that can seal up the seams and I can tackle them down the road before paint.

Here are a few shots of the tack welds before I stitched up the joints.

I also got a little excited and took a shot of the first tack weld of the sheet going on... dorky I know.

On my way to pick up the last of the sheet steel, time to get a burning! I am going to go trailer crazy this weekend! :D Stay tuned...

Nice dude, glad to hear you're gonna burn it in.

Yeah, it makes the most sense, and I hope will be faster and stronger in the long run. It is vibrations that usually kill a trailer.
