I have driven over 3k trouble free miles, including a trip to ST AUG. and back @ 70 mph on only 1 tank of gas. (I couldn't believe it either)

Thanks. I'll let you know when (if) I make it back up to Gainesville. It'll be MM and Burritto Bros. for me. The verdict is out and I'll be pulling my tub. I foresee a long and painful project. Previously, I rebuilt the center arm and installed new tie rods and tres. It steers okay as is, but I decided to rebuild the box to finish the job.

I rented a pitman arm puller form Advance Auto Parts. Advance allows you topurchase specialty tools and return them for a 100% refund... even if you break the tool! Thanks for the writeup COOLERGUY.

Steering Column Rebuild

I gave all bolts, that needing to be removed, a heavy duty dose of PB Blaster. PB is hand down the best product when it comes to loosening frozen bolts. I let it soak for a while for best results. The loaner Advance Auto puller fit like a glove. I tightened it up and tapped the pitman arm gently on both sides with my hammer. I repeated this twice and the arm slid right off. No excesive force,scraped knuckles or swearing required. It was "almost" too easy. This took about 3mins.

Steering Column Rebuild

I tore into the box and found the 4 adjustment shims. Everything in the box looks fine, with the exception of the bearings. The bearings will need to be replaced, as well a gasket, and a pitman arm seal. The pitman arm seal is the same seal used in the front inner axle.
Tommorow I will sandblast, clean, and paint all the pieces.

CRUISERGUY sent me a new steering rod for this project. The threads on mine were mangled.

I sold this cruiser to the Mellow Mushroom in Chattanooga, Tenn. The new owners drove it home from FLA. They ran out of gas once, other than that, it was trouble free. I'll be building another one once my 62 is done.

15 years later - I’ve come full circle.

This 76 recently found me. It was one of those unadvertised, “Hey I heard you like old Toyota’s” deals. Same owner since ‘81 parked in ‘17 with an engine knock. I was pleasantly surprised at the overall condition and how complete it is.

Homecoming. Few pics after the first bath. Originally a feeeborne red truck, it now has a similar international red that has faded out on the fenders and hood. There are also some sweet hand drawn pinstripes on the kick vents and hood.

Florida = bikini top. 81* yesterday at Silver Glen Springs. Hardtop is ready to come off. Cruiserjuju was flowing, not a single broken bolt.

I’m a sucker for vintage rims. I had turbines on my old 40 and slots on my 60/62. Both are long gone. Recently I found another set of 15x10 slots and I’m thinking some 33 12.5s are in their future. Debating if they will get polished or not. I kind of like the chalky look as it matches the rest of the rig.

Hands down I believe 33x10 on stock wheels are the best choice for overall performance, but on this build I’m going for the “back in the day look”.
