Truck looks great! Looks like you guys are getting good weather on the North coast too?

Hello,

Great build.

It seems Fern had a good time.

Have you considered a Toyota snorkel?

Juan

Thanks for the compliments guys.
Its been a beautiful last couple of days.
I stupidly didn't try and bring my rod to see if I could catch an early Kalum Spring Salmon! Nothings been caught there this year yet to my knowledge.

I don't see the point on going to a factory Toyota snorkel from already having a Safari.
The Toyota snorkel is smaller internally than my safari. If anything I would look at getting a bigger 4" safari that is designed for the newer 70 series. Time will tell if I decide to pump 20-25lbs of boost:)
Not there yet though, shouldn't get excited yet.

Right on Karter, nice build man.

Finally managed to get the Exedy Safari Tuff clutch put into the truck and finished last night.
Dame that transmission was pain to put back in.

Driving results, very firm pedal in comparison to stock but the little bit of driving I did around town it felt alright. I would say comparable to my buddies Subaru Sti in terms of pedal feel.

I have to drive it like a sane person for 1000kms to break it in to prevent glazing on the disk. Lots of stop go driving and keep highway driving to a minimum.

More maintenance to come.

Budget roof rack build for the roof top tent and awning. A few sneak peeks. More info to come

Thanks for your help on my questions on 5th gear for my truck... I saw you were Canadian and had imported this machine. I have read your entire post from the beginning, you are doing an awesome job... bonus!
I do have a question that you could help with. I am interested in eventually importing my HZJ78 to Canada, any info you can give me would be helpful... maybe even a separate thread for others that might be interested as they are not available locally.
Again awesome job and thanks :D

in 2020 you can import that machine, not a week early to the month ...
of course by then the rules might be changed and the 25 year rule might be in effect.

Hello Foreal Boreal,
I was always biased against any LC that wasn't heavy duty, and figured models such as yours were not worthwhile.
You have changed my mind; what an ideal compromise your model of LC is, four doors, 1HZ, all the HD goodies. If you have young 'uns, it's perfect.
It is also very, very nice to see you not rushing your build, even as you are obviously hugely enthusiastic. I am reading it all.
Hats off, FB!

Thanks,
I plan my mods to my needs and as funds/time permits. I'll have youngins in a few years and it seems stupid to build a truck up and have to sell it prematurely. Lots more stuff planned. I really want to figure out the design for the top mount and custom plenum.

Spent the day working on the rack.
It's all ready for the shop to weld on Monday.

What a rack! ( not something your wife or girlfriend wants to hear from a stranger )
Are you going to also fabricate a rear ladder?

Thanks guys.

The rack itself probably could be a little lower but the 77s roof has a bow to it because of the sun roof. I have designed the rack to compensate for the tilting sunroof to not hit the rack. In the highest spot its under an inch off. There will be a gap for the sun roof to be clear from bars but I may design a peice with nutcerts to cover the sunroof down the road. I could re-design the towers in the future, would be easy enough to do.

Towers and clips were bent and cut all at a welding shop for a $50 bill. 1/4" aluminum towers which are 6" wide and 1/8 aluminum clips to match.

No need for a rear ladder. I'm 6"7 and have no problems reaching up. The rack top 6"11 from the ground.
The towers and clips are held together with stainless 3/8 bolts and nylocs. I have nice ss allens for the roof rack clips. I bought two 20 foot lengths of 3/16 thick 2" aluminum angle for the frame and two 20 foot lengths of 3/16thick x 1.5" diameter rounded box tubing for the cross pieces. Cut up 10 cross pieces. Aluminum cost me $220, stainless fastners were $25. I figure another $100-$150 cash the thing will be done:)

Rack is 7'6" long and 4' wide.

Don't forget to measure pedal pressure so we can compare to baseline measure on the other thread.

Got the rack all welded up today. $60 cash
Brings the grand total a little over $350.
It was an absolute pita to get the clips on with nylocs between the roof and the tower. Not much space but it will prove to be a pain for anyone trying to potentially steal the rack off my truck.
The thing does not move up there. It's stout and still quiet at 100km/h.

I like that a lot. I really like that you can still open your sun roof. Good looks and great price

The sunroof gap was a plan since day one.
I may look into putting some nutcerts and potentially have a cover of expanded aluminum or something to cover the sunroof gap if I really want to haul some objects up there.

I am going to pre assemble the RTT tonight and draw up how I am going to attach the awning. Any recommendations on what side I have the tent entry or awning? I was thinking having the awning drivers side and it could be shielded a bit by the snorkel pre cleaner.
