All welded up, and ready to bolt in. The front tubes tweaked a little bit after I welded them so I'll have to open up the holes a bit. I still need to cut down the transmission plate and grind it smooth.

That is a BADASS skidplate. Good work!

The Hangs-Below-the-Frame-but-still-Flat-Crossmember

Haha. I rushed to get the plate cut to fit into the rear tubed section to protect the split case, so I didn't get any pics of the process. . . but here it is freshly painted. I am glad I did it, because there were some nice 16" long gouges in it from Rubithon last week.

All I did was weld 7" long tabs along the inside of the tube to be able to bolt the plate up into. I countersunk the holes to keep the flat theme and slapped the default flat black paint job on it. Next up is to trim down the transmission mount bolts and make a similar plate for the transmission. This plate isn't as necessary so it make take a month or six to cut that out and weld it up.

I ran into this old thread and remembered I wanted to post another view of CaliC's excellent crossmember:

The crossmember did an awesome job on the Dusy trip.

Aww, that sucks! I'm sad inside now

Haven't seen much of CaliCruiser lately. Hope he's been doing good!

OUCH !!!
Trick is to keep the rubber side down at all costs.
Very Nice work.

CaliCruiser I linked to this thread from an old thread on Marlin Crawler. Nothing impresses me much more than
the kind of cool fab work you did! I'm going to copy your dual stick fab, outstanding! J

SO MUCH BADASSERY HERE. Learned alot, and enjoyed a ton. Thanks @CaliCruiser for all the detail and pictures - invaluable! I have an H55f in my 62, and recently the transfer case cracked (had been clearanced a few years ago to fit advance adapters 4:1 low range gears, then re-welded for 'strength' but didn't prove to be strong enough) and now am thinking that the 4.7 toybox + a standard split case is going to be a better way to go. Crossmembers and support + protection for the drivetrain is a consideration I'm trying to properly take into account now (as is room in the tunnel) so everything in this thread was super helpful for me. Hope to meet ya on the trail sometime soon!

There is some hope that the Marlin Toybox will again become a thing, but there is also the "black box" which does the same thing and is available now. Interesting yours is the second broken split case I've heard about after the install of the 4:1 gearset.

If the new Toybox comes out it cost about the same I’m sure!
