ok I know I havent posted up the pictures but I cant seem to find my CF card reader:confused:

I think Im just going to borrow my roomates for tonight so I can get some viewing material up for you guys.

Update:

TBI is on and in "running" condition

It will idle, but is having some issues (havent tuned it yet)

I believe I have a vaccume leak in the maniflold- If I give it gas and then get off the gas suddenly, it will die...also when I give it full gas it doesnt sound right and doesnt give me much power. So Im going to start by fixing the possible vaccume leak, and see what that does.

Also had a bit of a flow issue with the return line getting pinched...which caused too much pressure so it ran rich...I did a "temporary fix" untill I get everything running right, and then will fab a permenant solution.

At this point I am taking a few days off so I dont get any more angry and mess somthing up.

I JUST WANT IT TO RUN :rolleyes:

:shotts:

Stick with it Eli...Your persistance will pay off sooner or later :)

Hopefully sooner rather than later so you can at least enjoy the beast for awhile instead of wrenching on it all the time.

Took me forever to get these up...but here are some photos ... as she sits with the TBI setup. I had to reseal the intake manifold...which wasnt as bad as I was expecting... Tonight will retime it and hopefully find that the vaccume leak is gone!

:confused:How did this happen, and how do you know it is a washer if you have to remove the head(s) to reach it? Are you thinking you sucked a washer through an intake valve?

Jack- Im not quite sure...but when I removed the spark plugs after hearing the sound, about 1/4th of a washer had grenaded itself into the back of the plug...and you can see the scratch marks from it going through the cyl.... my mechanic buddy tried to explain how it can (contrary to popular belief) jump between cyl.'s and he suspects that when the engine isnt running it is sitting in pieces on top of some of the cyl heads...

or something like that

One of the members in Rising Sun has his 2F (or maybe F) injest a hose clamp...He doesn't know how it got in there either but it sure caused some damage. There is a thread here on MUD about it...

The clamp was, contrary to popular belief, able to jump from cylinder to cylinder

An update as requested.

Decided that the best thing to do was to distance myself with this whole engine thing, and just get it running properly...then dive back into it myself...so I hired my certified mechanic buddy (same one who has been helping me the whole time) to pull the heads, and get it back to running condition without the knock or any other issues... Currently he is in my garage...both heads are off...found a small peice of washer on top of one of the heads...hopefully thats all of it. (nowhere else to search). He is sanding down the tops of the heads to reseal them with a target run time of tonight...also have a voltmeter so that when we get it running we can tune the TPS sensor and finally get her running right.

nice build bro!! i wish i had to time to work on my FJ40, im still in school and working alot but i only have 5 more 3 week classes. once im done im going to try and get it together before i start my bmw program.

Look forward to seeing your buildup!

Another update...once the heads were cleaned up my buddy noticed a significant blemish on the head...enough that it needs to be replaced... He explained to me that it had to be a factory default because if it was some sort of hotspot that caused a divit to melt...there would be a blemish in the carbon which there isnt. He also said it looked like a reman head rather than a new one! which is strange considering that its a "new" crate engine...nonetheless it should be covered by warranty and will be taking it in to them to be replaced on monday.

Holy crap!!! I just read your entire thread and.....wow....pretty freakin' cool. I'm only a few months into my 74' ownership and I can't wait to do some stuff to her. If I could find a garage space to work in:o. Very inspirational. Thanks.

Sometimes it seems that if things get too annoying, then taking a step back and have some down time will recharge the passion for the project again. God knows you've earned a break. Goodluck with everything.

Oh yeah....Freeborn red rules.....:D

Sucks to hear about your engine woes. If it were me I'd call the place where you bought the GM motor and beoytch. Don't stop until you get the the top and don't take no for an answer.

The head wear is probally the chip that in the cylinder heads. If it were me I would inquire to see if they (GM) could pony up and refund a protion of your money or at the very least pay for a portion of the repairs. Be very civil and professional with your concerns and just maybe they will help you out

I commned you as you've have a good attitude despite all the shizzel you've had go wrong with your engine. It will make you appreciate your cruiser that much more. Hang in there.

Best,

Jeff

Thanks Jeff and Steve

ok...

So I leave for SB in 2 months (at the latest) and the cruiser is supposed to be my daily driver...

Not sure if its possible...I would have to get the hardtop fitted up (since the body is the Aqualu) get the engine running right...tuned...and redo all of the wiring. :crybaby:

And Ideally get all the red stuff related to suspention in my signature done too. (not going to happen due to budget)

At this point everyday all I hear is my mom complaining about how I should sell it..but I keep telling her that I can get all of it done. Not so sure if thats true.

What do you guys think... If I have 2 months left...working full time...that leaves about 2 days a week MAX to work on the cruiser. So were talkin 12 days of cruiser time till I move.

Man you dumped your heart and sole in that thing.... do everything you can do to keep it!!!!!!!!! but I think all that work is a tall order in 2 months..... I would not give up!!!
