Sure you want to give up on your engine. A bad rear main seal isn't that big of a deal.

Sweet pics by the way, I like that award :D

Well...for the money I get for the refund...I could get atleast a vortec....of something with EFI....if i stick with a gasser

Yes, a Vortec is a good engine. One of my work trucks has one and it has ran great, the accessories I can't brag much about, but the engine is definitely good.

The only problem is that you'll be getting a used engine, if that doesn't bother you go for it.

I would stick with the gas. Diesels are great but... You will spend more on parts and repair. The 350/vortec is alot easier to buy parts for when you break. A rear seal is no big deal and can be done without pulling the motor completly.

Nice rig by the way. I have watched your post and build, you have done a great job.

Not hard. there are 1 piece and 2 piece seals.

I think if I were you I would ask Jegs to pay a reputable shop for the repair and call it good.

If I'm not mistaken you have the later style 350?

If so you'll have to pull the tranny.

I'm pretty sure 86+ had one piece rear seals.

Still not that hard just a little bit more involved than a two piece.

Let us know

Here you go, btw it looks awsome!!!! My vote is for the diesel!!!!

What kind of headlights are on your rig? Paint looks great!

on second thought, I would replace that seal, or have jegs pay for it, a vortec is gonna cost you more than the 1300, plus you will need to rewire, etc, not really worth it in my opinion for your particular situation, just get the junk you got workin right.......

Headlights are roundeyes... and they are BRIGHT!!!!:D

Noah, after talking to my mechanic buddy he said the same thing....essentially I have a bran new engine with a $20 gasket problem that can be fixed locally at a GM dealer under warranty...If I pull it out and leave the tranny in it should only take an afternoon to get it down to GM and have them fix it. Then I can order up an EFI setup and be golden....

Makes the best sense right...

On that note, what do you guys know about the different brands of throttle body efi? Holly or Howell? or neither?

PS anyone notice my new SN?:grinpimp:

will post some new build pics very soon...since I will be tearing it apart shortly (wed)

An update:

Just got it back from the local GM dealership..turns out its not a blown rear main :) it was just a bad seal where the mechanical fuel pump mounts up... Also he said the reason why its running like crap and feels like it is missing is because I have a minor vacum leak at the intake manifold...

Both simple 1 hour fixes... Infact its perfect timing with the fuel pump, because the TBI setup comes with an electric one:cool: SO I just ordered up a block off plate and seal, and will get that on wed afternoon. I will fix the vac leak then also.:bounce:

GREAT news Eli...Dang, if your painter had just finished up 1-2 weeks sooner CM07 probably would have turned out so much more different for you :)

But, now you can start enjoying the 40 for awhile instead on more wrench time

Or are you still planning to SOA the 40 and have more down time still to go?

Jeff, I actually plan on taking out the axles and current suspension and doing the SOA here in the next few weeks..I cant stand driving it now because untill im above 50MPH its super super stiff. In the mean time I am revamping (cutting out all the extra) wiring, installing the TBI, and cleaning everything up...I also think im going to design a custom tranny cover that comes up higher and has room for a cdplayer, and the ECU for my projection

Something similar to Jeremia's rig...but it wont come up high enough to meet up with the dash, and wont have the sides box up under the dash.... newt1.webp

another update...I will be getting my TBI today! So I think I might start that install...we'll see how late it shows up.

Also I am going to put on the six shooter knuckles along with Proffitts hysteer, and I have located all of the necissary parts to do the FJ60 PS conversion.

Pics to follow.

Been too busy at work to get any pics..

I got the TBI and pimp starter.

I installed the starter and totally effed up my hand doing it...since my shoulders are all weak from surgery and the starter weighed alot, I had to make my wrist contort to hold all the weird positions under the rig....now its in a brace and kinda feelin shiotty. BUT she starts beautifully and sounds much better when cranking...must have something to do with that 4:1 gear reduction:grinpimp:

I also think I will be going with fox shocks instead of bilstein when I get new ones for the SOA....I like the build and the mounting better than the bilsteins...not for sure yet though.

and at this point I have scrathed the idea of raising up the tranny hump....dont want to take away the "cruiser" look/feeling

PS the TBI is "pretty"

Allright...spent a few hours yesterday doing the "plumbing" for the TBI...decided to go with hardlines through the frame rails, and then FI soft line comes up from the frame rail to the injectors, then back to hard for the return line. That was a total PITA...gasoline ALL OVER EVERYTHING.

Started my morning today at 9am, and 4 shots of coffee, and a brain full of gas fumes later I am 85% done!

All I have to do is hook up the wiring (shouldnt take more than 30 min, cause all I have to do is route it, and attach the pigtails...basically a no brainer), and reseal the intake mainfold.

Another thing I accomplished while working with the rig was bending my gas peddle so it can now throw full throttle rather than going halfway and hitting the ground:mad::)

I have taken pictures of the install and will post them tonight when Im finished.

I think I am going to pospone getting the SOA kit for a few weeks so I can work all the kinks out and use MY rig for a DD so I can work full time without sharing my moms CRV.

I am STOKED to tune this puppy:bounce:
