What a freaking drag! I've had surgery for shoulder dislocation, you definitelty won't be wrenching for awhile. Gee, that means if the first motor would have been...oh never mind. I hope a speedy recovery for you and keep us posted!

yea thanks guys-

this is gonna be my fourth shoulder surgery, and all i can hope for is that they can do it orthroscopically rather than open me up...my surgery is schedualed for this fri. at the steadman hockins clinic up in vail, so we drove halfway up there to grand junction (in a hotel now) to avoid driving over red mountain in the big snow storm that should be hitting tonight... ill write back as soon as im off enough drugs that i can type stuff that makes sense....hahha. college is once again going to have to be posponed....untill i can use my arms to photograph and figyre out a way to finish the cruiser.

Shoulder

Sorry to hear about the injury. I'm jealous of the snow though. Utah has been a little disappointing so far.. I guess we are pretty good, I just want more Pow Pow. I guess you get your break now.. You've worked hard.. What is your budget for this project?? It's looking pretty smooth.. Good luck with surgery..

How'd you manage to separate it anyhow?

yea no more skiing for me...I have gone way over budget...but the overall tally is somewhere around 13k

I seperated it on the last run of the day, being stupid...I launched off our last headwall to do an ironcross, and i popped off it a bit off ballance, and when i raised up my arm to counter it, it popped out...so i frose midair and just slid down like 30 ft of the run.

:crybaby: Hey Mountiancruiser sorry about the shoulder hang in there. I have been reading about your build thinking about my first frame off resto of my 77 fj-40 in 86 i did it in 6 mouths and is been plowing 25- 30 drivways every snow storm here in Newengland since I bought it in 82. Take the time ( you have no choice ) and do it the right way first time and you will have no regrets. It looks like your doing just that it looks GREAT being young is everything I have been working on my wife,s 82 fj-60 doing a frame off resto for the last 6 years but I lost a year and a half building a new garage 30 X 40 with a two post lift to finish her truck. I guess age has it,s privleages.
you will GIT ER DONE !!!!!
 CART

im out of surgery and back home...turns out in addition to tearing my labrum off i had ripped out all of the front ligaments, and muuc more than expected hemmorahging. This surgery pain wise has and is proving to be much more worse than the others. if some of my sentances dont make sense its probably because im on a high dose of oxycodone and oxycontin....anyway i stumbled across some tear down pics.....----

also somewhat ironic that when i started the project/teardown, i was just a few weeks out of my surgery on my right shoulder (thus the sling)

sorry to hear

sorry to hear the shoulder was worse off than expected, but at the same time it's great to take care of it now.. I went skiing today, and the snow was surprisingly nice since we haven't had new snow for a while..

Take care of it man.. And keep up the pics.. looks great..

An update-

Im not sure if I had told you guys allready, but the reason why we havent put the new motor yet was because we ruined the TH350 tranny pump. So last night my buddy who is a toyota mechanic came over to make sure this guess was right...it was shot no doubt about it....I had been planning to just order a new pump for like $150, but I wasnt to stoked about price and having to wait to get to me.....so today I called every local shop to see if ther had any pumps in stock...noone had them, so i made one last phone call to a offroad shop in cortez (bout 45 min away from me) and got lucky....They said I didnt need to replace the whole pump, only the gears in the pump that were ruined- SO for $30 in parts, $60 in labor and $10 in gas, i will have a functional and sound transmission....I would normally put it in myself, but by paying them to do it, if something gets messed up, i can take it back to them and they will fix it free of charge.

Im hopeing to get it to them today but if not then def tmrow.

hope everyone had a good new years.

Eli

ok tranny is back and fixed. tmow some buddies said they would help me put the new motor and tranny together and put it in the 40. (when I say "we" I really mean they, because I am no help...just the director.)

Another friend of mine is welding up the seat mounts for about $50 plus materials.

That is a fantastic x-ray. I am a orthopedic surgery resident and look at x-rays every day of dislocated shoulders and what not. The x-ray tech who took that film kicks ass, I only wish they worked at my hospital. It definitely helps being young without any signs of arthritic changes, but reguardless.....great film. I hope you heal quickly and I have enjoyed your build thread.

cruiserdoc

cruiserdoc, although I dont know what qualifies a film as being "good" I can atleast explain why this one appears different...normally they are kinda hard to see because the bone is white and everything else is black, but I changed that to improve clarity...They doc in my town had given me a disk to give to the surgeon up at steadmen hockins clinic with my films on it, and of course I wanted a pic for myself...but the only problem was it was only capable of being opened in a special hospital program...so I did some online hounding and came up with a demo of a surgery centers film software for my mac, that was designed to read xrays cat scans MRI's etc. what I noticed was cool about it was that it can do 3D renderings and bassiccally emulate fake skin and stuff....anyway after playing with it I found a feature that changed things about the xray, im not sure what It was revealing but it made things that otherwize were very minute and hard to see, very visible....so this one that it is now set to is a setting that made the whole film clearer and more visible, instead of that hazy crap that is hard to read when it comes out of the printer...maybe the fact that its a digital rather than a printup improves quality...? or just a good xray tech like you said.

I have the perfect red neck fix for your shoulder.

Pull the fauker back in place. Have one buddy grab your arms, two buddies grab a leg each and pull like hell. The fauker should pop back into place and solve all your shoulder problmes, legiments will heal in time.

Make sure to drink some moonshine before the procedure to lessen the pain.

haha ill have to give it a try...

hey so im gonna ask this evey before I scour the FAQ for info....

Now that both my shoulders are bum, I am gonna have to swap out my sweet delux "armstrong" steering for power steering...given my build up what rout do ya think I should go...Im not sure with the 35's if the mini setup is enough...and I dont really know what the mini setup is...just heard it being mentioned (one again after I write this Ill hit up the FAQ)...So then that leavees the saginaw right? so If those are my only two options...what rout should I go...I am somewhat familiar (via pictures) of the welding involved to get the plate for mounting the saginaw...is it the same with the mini? cost comparison? time comparison?

Thanks guys any info is apretiated, also Im gonna have to find out where to get these parts becuase the junkyards around here are crap.

Look in the for sale section, there always seems to be a few ps setups in there. BTW I have enjoyed your build up, nice work.

Thanks... ill def check there.

Could anyone who has done the power steering setup make a list of the chaanges that have to be made...the FAQ has bits and pieces, but when someone like me who hasnt the least bit of knowledge into the conversion...(I just assumed you got the saginaw box, and a power steeriing gear box, and a pitman arm and then you are done.

Apparently I am very wrong...there seem to be steering shaft issues, and also different types of plates to weld into hold the ps box in...all sorts of wierd joints they mention...

So could someone who has donne this possibly make a list of the parts that need to be changed
?

Thanks

Eli
