What did you order up to relocate the winch solenoids? I'd like to do the same with mine.

Ok, I was never really interested in the Hawaiian islands before, the forest roads look amazing though. I'm adding it to my list. Also since its currently snowing and 9*F outside, I would like to say thank you to @Aloha Jen for the pleasant distraction.

+1.

This thread is like the tourism board of photos "why you need to be here".

I'm so down with warm weather I watched a good hour of some Kannapali (sp.) PGA golf tourney on TV this weekend, and all I saw was the scenery. It was ~35* out here :cautious:. Golf. On TV. ::sigh::

Pics are gold @Aloha Jen - thanks so far & never quit!

Gearing up for a trip to the islands in a couple of weeks with my family - it was the kids Christmas present this year. We're all getting pretty pumped, but will be landcruiser-less while there :(. I'll be on Oahu for a couple of days, we'll see the PCC and the Arizona - open to recommendations on good non-touristy spots if you have some (that I can get to in a rental.)

Oahu for 3 days, then Kauai for a week.

I lived on Oahu for a while. You have to get out of the city and go to the north shore and hit a shrimp truck.

Any good, quiet beaches the kids and I can hang out at for the day? Not interested in being with the masses of humanity....

There are plenty quiet beaches to find, especially if you go mid week or don't mind walking a bit for some solitude. I will pm you a few good quiet beaches on Oahu.

Do you ever feel like you've exhausted all there is to see on the island? ever have a feeling of being 'trapped' there even though it is so absolutely beautiful?
I don't ever feel like that. I have heard people say they feel trapped or there is nothing to do, but I never understood it. So many beaches and different surf spots. Plenty hikes to do, you could get lost for weeks in the mountain jungles if you wanted to. And if you ever need a change of scenery, it's a short hop to the outer islands or just jump on a flight to anywhere in the world out of HNL. Its not for everyone, but it's home for me.

Cheers Jen, really appreciate it. We get in on a tues or weds, and leave on fri I think? We're all hikers as well, so active outdoor things are how we prefer to spend our time.

I'm not looking to encroach on any of your secret gems, just trying to find some of those awesome areas that only locals seem to know about that are away from all the tourists - and wouldn't mind it if its a little work to get there!

Ok be an idiot and skip the shrimp trucks.

I like the waimanalo beaches just past the light house on the east side. Beautiful beaches no tourist. There was a good Mexican place there also which is hard to find on Oahu.

One of the best parts about visiting family is loading up the Land Cruiser and seeing new places or showing favorite spots.

Wow, you and your sister are both beautiful....good for both of you! Love the shot of you coming out of the water.....so Hawaii.....swimming in the northern hemisphere in January. Not many places you can do that. You have to get someone to get a shot of you surfing. Never learned to do that but it sure looks fun! Your Hawaiian photos are really appreciated. I have been to Oahu several times and it is one of the most beautiful places on mother earth. I'd love to visit again if I could get enough time away from the business!

That is very kind of you to say. She is actually my sister in law, married to my husbands brother...but we are very close and have been friends for a long time.
Yes, year round swimming here. But the water does dip to the low 70's this time of year. In the photo above of me coming out of the water, there was a sea turtle swimming right around me in the shallows, you can kinda see it in this picture:

As for pics of me surfing, I wouldn't expect any good ones anytime soon as I am a terrible surfer.....but it is a lot of fun!
And couldn't agree with you more on how beautiful it is here, I am reminded of that daily!!

Wow, I was in the military stationed in Hawaii for a year back in 1999, and we never made it out to any of these amazing spots! Looks like I need to get back in the military and have them send me back!! Ha.
