LMAO to the flipper comment. Exuse me for not knowing but are shackles? when i said i came here to learn i was not joking.
And i'm looking forward to the addiction.

If you can, hang out with other 40 Cruiser heads. I have a small group of "Esteemed 40 Brothers" here in Austin and they are so patient with all my questions of "what's this?". This board is an awesome resource; however, having people right next to you, seeing things in real-time and in person helps with the learning curve.

Beer helps too:beer:

RockRod.....I see why you like the green.

More pics will b coming. My 5 year thought she was a photographer and well..........................

I totally agree TEXASWINDMILL. my next goal is to find a group somewhere close to home. I'm hoping that there is somekind of group here in N.J.

Color is original. I've seen a few, Landpimp's being the most famous. Research every mod you make to it, and think it through....especially if it involves cutting the sheet metal...

don't know how to edit, so will start over. great looking rig! sounds like a fair price also. texas windmill, you are right-good austin group that i have met so far. expanding also-there are at least 5 in the spicewood area now. jim:beer::beer:

Landpimp? is he a member? I don't have plans on making any mods....do you say that because it's a rare color?

Land Pimp is a member here. You can use the search fcn to find posts by him.

I think it is a rare color, but more so than that, there were just no that many 1982 40's sold in the US. ANd they rusted very easily. You have a beautiful, rare rig that you paid a fair price for...

The shackles are the itmes located at the ends of your leaf springs out at the front and rear of the vehicle. You have "anti-inversion" shackles that will not fold in on themselves after maximum droop if installed correctly. Yours are installed incorrectly.

Welcome to MUD!

Where abouts in New Jersey are you? I'm about 8 miles from NJ 30 miles north of Philly.

Thanks for the post. And for the shackle info. After the post I did go and learn up on shackles. I was relieved to find out that mine were installed correctly.

You mean to tell me you've got a 60 gallon tank? ;)

Is that an air conditioner in the passenger footwell?
Not a 60 gallon tank but an additional 20 Gallon tank was installed. i have yet to fill both tanks and get exact mileage. That was just a guesstimate on my part. And yes that is factory air on the floor.

Here are a couple of pics of properly installed AI shackles.

Compare to yours and you will see the diff.

30 minute fix.

I'm an hour and 1/2 from phili. I'm in sussex county NJ. North West Jersey. Is there any kind of group or gathering that happens in you area?

You should check out Appalachian Land Cruiser Association in the club section. They run out of central PA. Do alot of runs at Rausch Creek off road park off 81 and 209. www.rauschcreekoffroadpark.org

Your shackles are not installed properly. This is the proper orientatation for that type of shackle. The last two photos are from MAF who sell anit-inversion shackles.

Sometimes when your suspension flexes in rough going the shackles will fold up to the frame when the weight comes back on to the spring. They can be pried back in place with a tire iron, but the big danger is you could bend or break a spring. If you mount the shackles like in bsevans pic the "extra" bolt in the shackle prevents this from happening. Looking at your pics it looks like your shackles, especially the rears, could invert quite easily, mine used to do it even just going over a curb when I first had my springs re-arched. Please mount your shackles like in besevans pic.

The name of that color is "spring green", it was only available in 82, I had one that color. Clean ride, great buy at today's prices.
