@sogncab said I am running rich on the trails and thus my ass stinks. I was so into talking with people first morning, I didn't adjust timing or idle - suffered some going up the first climb and quickly set the timing and idle so I would wheel better at first break.

Tonight took the time to undo the Black Hills adjustment and get back to the prairie settings... final setting is 8 degrees and 800 rpm (1980 spec rpm).

And I also realized I did that last two lean-drops kinda wrong. I was taught by friend in KC with the engine build to do the final rpm set with the air/fuel mixture, not idle screw. (adjust air/fuel to max rpm, idle drop to 850, repeat until air/fuel has no impact - back rpm down to 800 via air/fuel)

Before I started the lean drop tonight, counted 6 full turns of air/fuel mixture - backed out 2, then did lean drop. I am under 4 full revolutions now vs 6. 18 HG of vac too.

Then clean some of the dust/grim off - looks worse now - need to spend big time just cleaning. But going to be the 'pro' in procrastination with that.

Coozie sticks Like magic! Honestly, I love the vacuum at 19 too

I decided it would be best to start my own thread vs blasting “What have you done…” with everything I do. I’m more comfortable to elaborate here.

This is my first LC (1980 – January 1980 build) and my first experience working on a car like this (Engineer who works behind a desk). I’ve owned this rig for about 18 months or so and some stuff has been done by me before I started this thread. Some point I will backfill the historical events. Right now, the thread will start where things sit now. Which is… parts on the ground, drying paint, reading the FSM and Forum, asking questions with others, and saying what I am seeing/thinking.

This is where I left off from the “What have you done thread…” (What have you done to your Land Cruiser this week? - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/what-have-you-done-to-your-land-cruiser-this-week.255593/page-1653#post-14837903) – I have the roof off – looking at some restoration (get rid of the rust on the channel) there (and all new rubber), I am working on the steering, and the engine and possibly the carburetor are giving me issues too to address.

My intention is one day to have this as a daily driver. I’m not planning to do a frame-off – but that is just a plan, right?

Enjoy

did you chrome your front bumper?
.

On the road to @solomrus … a few years ago took roof off thinking I would tackle that. Nope, not yet- mechanical first.

And I had bad wind noise inside - especially to the Black Hills. Put this in the corners of drip rail and fiber glass top. Big difference in wind noise reduction.

The rest might be used for Rus’ HZJ73 side windows before SAS 9 convoy trip out.

Helped out at Rus's with some of the projects going on there. Took some time out to do an oil change too.

On way home, thought about some additional tweaks to the spreadsheet I have on my phone for Yellr with MPG and oil changes, etc.

Enjoyed the ride home. Started to rain near the end, so rolled up windows... so much quieter.
