I'm coming through again. I wanted to stop, but I'm pistol whipped tired and still have 5 and half hours to go.

Why are 80s so big on the outside, yet so tiny in the inside?
I might have seen you. I saw an 80 series heading east maybe 10-15 minutes ago. Not many here in Chevy/Ford country so LC all stick out

Lots of logs on the fire and see more stacked and ready....

Slow start this week. Basically started in yesterday afternoon - some small stuff around the engine bay - cleaned up some PO wiring, installed the light kit people are getting. Took time to think about were to place the coil - the bracket on the fender where the coil normally goes is missing on my rig.

Used some brackets I got from CruiserMatt - the are sweet.

I will look for a 90* coil wire. Think I will keep the coil there (until I don't). Hooked the tach that came with the rig up (green wire on coil).

The headlight rings were rusty - so cleaned it up and painted them black. Not that you will really see them.

Nice work.

Some other rabbit hole stuff was discovered yesterday - did a few things but more revealed and while I would like to solve it now, the goal is the axles and suspension. Will post about that maybe this weekend.

Today after work and Lunch- paint dry, put lights in - man way brighter. Looked at the 80 am alternator - I got a single pulley - comes with a double and it would hit the fan. Decided while nice and straight forward, really need to get to meat and potatoes - Basically have access to lift until next Friday then turns into a pumpkin.

what I discovered, the cone washers for the hub were MIA - wtf. after the steering rods removed, move the arm on the knuckle on drivers side and could feel a flat spot with the trunnion bearing. So glad taking apart.

Some picts from this afternoon...

Removed front drive shaft and shocks - and decide enough for the day and thinking how to sequence the work the next few days.

Plan for tomorrow - I think I am calling in well tomorrow. Will remove the front diff. Then drop the front leaf springs to drop axle and remove shackles and pins too. Then clean parts, clean axle, clean diff - paint, and start in on the diff internals.

Wiped out today. Got a lot done, yet seems like very little got done.

Forgot to mention yesterday - with the rear tires off, spun the axle and could hear and feel the bearing complaining. Wow, sounded like it was coming from the engine - that noisy - that will be next week.

Today removed diff, axle and dropped the shackles and started to clean. Everything took longer as is does... Hopefully some painting tomorrow and can finalize some stuff taken apart and start removing the pins and shackles and assemble the front end.

Start of day

The last item is the brakes calipers...

So I was getting what I thought was everything. Looked at calipers saw the rubber seals torn in places so was told how to expand them (have never rebuilt calipers) - so a few attempts with the air and bamb, out they came, Kind of - that was a great learning experience. Didn't lose any fingers with that.

Then time to clean the pistons and inside - that took forever and a day. Noticed the PO had done this before. I say that as I saw scratches that were rusted in the pits. Back to my point, I didn't buy new pistons - and wish I would have at the time - 4 bucks a piston would save a lot of time - but I now know.

Tomorrow will use some assembly lube and put them back together while paint dries. Also while paint is doing it's thing, will start on the Dobinsons.

Did you get a leveling block or whatever for the Dobinson’s? I need to make a post about this but there is no side specific spring with dobinson’s.
My 40 has a wicked lean to the driver side due to me and the spare. I was recommended the light kit by my seller due to not having anything extra in back and I think that was a terrible decision. I don’t even have my hard top on and I’m already level.

Hopefully you have better results.

I don't have a leveling block - will ask Russ if he has one - been great using someone else's stuff so I know what I should get vs think I should get.

This weekend will be interesting & next week - I too have the mediums for the same reason - You're making me wonder if I will have some barely used Dobinson springs for sale (along with the HD OME springs that are used but perfectly fine for cheap). except for skid plate - I am at my base/normal weight with the 4Plus stuff on.

I feel a case of B-double E, double R, UN coming on.

Yeah, regular/light was a bad call for me.
Currently sitting level front to back with no hardtop on. Just the spare tire and a connferr tube bumper.

The lean to the DS is really bumming me out though. Turning right I felt like I was going to tip over so I added a few sandbags (the light stand variety) to the right rear wheel well and it feels safer.

Dobinson’s response was not encouraging, in fact, while they’re responsive, the CSA I’ve been dealing with doesn’t seem to know much about the product at all.

In all, the springs just seem weak. Probably add a leaf in the future. Or hit you up for the old springs.

If these don't work well I am not sure what I will do. The Terrain Tamer Parabolic came out after I got my shipment of springs - heavy Dobinson or heavy TT?

Been eyeing those with more than passing curiosity. Couple good vids on the “Tube”.
