Soldering iron is the key to good clean holes that won't cause runs.

I've always heated an awl and pierced the carpet with that for holes, soldering iron is perfect. A carpet guy taught me to put a little crazy glue around the hole as well. Works pretty well, never had a run with this method.

This is great feedback and I hope that it helps others have a better installation.
