Thanks guys. I am starting to think that I must fit a 3UZ-FE motor to this truck. The 3UZ puts out about 300hp, with feul injection it will be a better bet than carbed SBC350.. And the idea of an all Toyota rig sounds kinda cool to me..

Not much at this stage. But I am about 85% finished with extending the cab. Just need to cut out the old floor and fabricate a new one, then I'm finished with the cab. Finances are a bit low at this stage, so my dreams for 3UZ engine has been put on hold. So at this stage I am doing all my work to the body and chassis, and when it's possible for a decent engine I can just fit an engine and then my build will basically be finished. While I am still without an engine, I can't help but to think if this build won't be more unique with a Diesel powerplant like a trusty 1HZ. The 1HD engines are just way to expensive? Any suggestions on fitting a 1HZ instead of a gasoline V8?

Here's a few random pics of the cab:

After these pics were taken I completely welded the extension pieces tothe excisting cab, so I have a fully welded Xtra Cab for my 45 now. I also closed and welded all the openings in the fire wall, so now I have a nice smooth firewall.
Biggest news I guess is that I fetched a 1HZ motor for this truck this morning. ;)

That looks great millas, I really like the little side window. That's what I need to do, I'm 6'2" and I cannot get far enough away from the steering wheel in my 45.

What do you know about that bed that's on there? I think I have the same one on my truck (which is from SA).

Were those only put on the African trucks and were they assembled in Africa or Japan?

Did these beds have tailgates, I don't have one and I notice you don't either?

Does your truck have a proper ID plate on the firewall? Mine has this weird, hand stamped looking ID plate, is that common in the African 45's?

Sorry for all the questions, awesome looking truck you've got!

Here's a shot of my bed.

As far as i know some of these 45s came into SA as chassis cab units and the load bins were manufactured locally, including tailgates. My truck does have a proper vin plate, I just took it off and put it in a safe keeping place.
The reason that I added the extra piece of cab is that I lost about 200mm of cab space due to me fitting the dash from a 70 series Land Cruiser. Sweet looking truck you've got there..

Looking great Millas! That 1HZ will be an awesome addition also!

If you don't mind me asking, how wide are your extension pieces? I like how yours looks a great deal- however I think I might go a little wider when I do mine because I would like to be able to fit a couple if kids back there, but having a starting point would be nice!

Also, what do you do to finish your welds out on the inside? Do you just grind them smooth? I'm trying to figure out bodywork without ever having had any first hand experience!

Twoturtles, apologies for only getting back to you now, never checked the thread.
The extension pieces is about 260mm ( a little bit over 10 inches). I basically just extended the cab because of the dash from a 75 series that I've fitted and doing so lost some valuable cab space. Unfortunately the extra space of the cab inside is to small to really put anything behind the seats, maybe a small cooler box, but not much more. What I might do is to put a false floor in for storage etc. The welds on the inside I will try and smooth out by some grinding and sand paper.

I eventually went the Diesel route, and went with a 1HZ that I will turbo at a later stage.

I managed to get a manifold/turbo combo from a 1HD for the 1HZ. It was a perfect bolt on swap!
