That is one good looking 2H, cant wait to see how you will do the turbo setup.
keep up the good work!

Eye candy!

Nice choice of colours too. (But I wonder how that paint will standup over time?)

Nice to see that you're thinking "as a true mechanic" while assembling everything too.

Cam look like it can have a remake Harding after checking ? lifters shot, rockers also , but can be re-sprayed (depends on $ / arm) .

Master Tech's know the time to part to fix the problem.

You stated that your judgment was off a bit on the rebuild.
Think your home and by the joints that have "crap/toys".
Full cam lifters ? make sense .

Best read I have had in ages.

Of alot of interest to me (other than the eye candy which I will try myself) is the cost of getting an injector pump looked at! I think its cheaper for me to send a pump the USA than have it done here in Australia!

VT, yes the engine was in worse shape than I had thought. I wasn't expecting to replace the entire oil pump, one rocker, and three lifters. It added a few hundred dollars to my parts list but the cam looked fine so I have that going for me. I would have liked to replace all the rockers and the shaft but at around $30 per rocker I figured the rest would be ok. I can always change them later.

gb,
I was hesitant to have the work done on the pump because i felt $500 was high for it not even to be rebuilt. However, the pump is the heart of the beast so I figured it would be silly not to do it. After I picked it up and saw how clean it was I felt better about spending the money. They did a clean, paint, inspect, tune, and re-gasket so I feel the money was well spent.

Me likey!

I've heard of the centrifugal oil filter before, but i though it was on "H" diesels only for some reason. I like the idea of it, have you had much to do with it or any issues?

Well I only owned this truck for two weeks before I pulled the engine so I dont have much experience with it. I was excited to pull apart the centrifuge and see what was in there to clean out. I was disapointed to see there was nothing in there. There was a home-made gasket on it so someone had been in there before but I didnt see much evidence of any oil even being in it. Now it did sit and leak on my garage floor for a few weeks before I took it apart so maybe the oil just all leaked out but it didnt look like it was even getting in there. When I was reassembling it after bead blasting I noticed the bypass valve was hard to reinstall and get out. I washed it out real well but the valve just wanted to stick in it and not move. I think this was stuck so no oil was getting to the centrifuge. I got out a bore brush and cleaned the orfice well. Then I polished up the valve with 1000 grit. With some fresh oil on it I could blow compressed air inside and feel the valve move. I will be curious if it works now. I guess I will clean it out after the break in oil change.

my previously running 2h is still for sale for 500 bucks. i'd hang onto it but just don't have the space. it may have even had a rebuild i just have no way of knowing. old land cruisers ain't like new toyotas...they don't come with warranties or any assurances, and if buying one in the future, i'd be fully prepared to toss a substantial amount of money in right off the bat. it's unfortunate but its the game right? what i love about lcs is all of the things i can take of on my own....and the fact that to install an ignition on lc i bought last fall cost me the 30 bucks it cost to get keys cut, and not the 1500 my friend just spent on an ignition problem on a tacoma. that being said i may be faced with a rear seal bill of 1000 bucks soon. one way or another....

I got off work early at 4:30 today so I decided to skip the gym and see if I could get some work done on the engine since I have to work Saturday.

Then I ran into a problem. There was no one to help me take my hood off. My neighbor was not home so I devised a way to get the hood off myself. Lay it on the boards then unbolt and slide it off.

Getting there but with the ARB on the hoist isnt long enough to push the engine all the way in. I had to put a floor jack under the car to hold it and reposition my chain.

You can see the hoist is against the bumper but I still have quite a bit to go.

I dont have any pics of it in because it was dark when I finished. I ran into a little problem with the mounts though. I had bought a new passenger side mount because it seemed like the engine may be leaning that way. The trans mount is collapsed so far on that side that if I tried 4WD I would smash off the zerk fitting on the front driveshaft on the crossmember. I figured I would replace both mounts and if that didnt work I would shim the passenger side. Well my new mount didnt fit. If you look in the pic the mount I took off has offset studs and the new one are straight. I guess I will have to look for a new one.

Strange, because I bought new motor mounts in Venezuela last year and they where the same as your old motor mounts. But they were from a 3F engine. My original ones are the same as your new ones, with the "bolts" in the same line.

Oh, wait. The other way around. I had the same situation. The new ones are 3F motor mounts. Sorry for the confusion!

Hummm.... I will have to contact Neil at RooDogs I guess. I may just shim the passenger side mount.
