Sorry to hear Sinister. Nothing beats stress like a purring fuzzball. Kudos for rescuing great kitty. When the time is right, do it again. The rewards will keep coming.:grinpimp:

Well, life can be a bitch sometimes. This has been one of the best and worst years of my life..I'm sure there will be more but yesterday was exceptional.

I had to put my best bud of 12 years down. Austin was one of the best dogs a guy could ask for...loyal to a fault, smart and very gentle. Austin has been suffering for a while with hip dysplasia, and it wasn't right for me to let him suffer any longer.

I spent the entire week spoiling him with extra attention, treats and just telling him how much I love him. Friday night, I fired up the grill and cooked him a new york strip, poured him some good dark beer and spent time with him.

Saturday morning, we got up early and went for a little stroll around the neighborhood to the old oak tree in a large open field. I watched him relive his puppy days by rolling on his back in the tall fields of grass. We slowly walked home with him smiling and wagging his tail, even though I knew he was in pain with each step.

Austin, you'll never be forgotten, and I'll see you soon buddy. Thanks for the best 12 years of my life..miss you buddy!

RIP Simon

We got Simon 15 years ago from the Humane Society here in Tucson. The vet thought he was probably 1-1 1/2 years old. Early on, he was great at escaping and exploring the neighborhood, but he eventually realized he had it pretty good and elected to stay home, well there was this one time he went exploring Brewery Gulch in Bisbee without an escort...
Although he'd always been a healthy guy, the last couple years he'd had a couple bouts with vestibular disease which took a toll. He was always a finicky eater and he became more so with age and had been dropping weight even though I tempted him with all kinds and brands of soft and hard food. He let us know it was time last Saturday, when he tried but couldn't get up. Even though we hoped the vet would give us good news, his kidneys had shut down. Still hard to accept he's gone. Love ya buddy.

What a handsome boy...

So sorry to hear Rex:frown:

diesel

The one on the right we had to put down last year after a year long battle with skin allergies. It got so bad he was chewing himself till he would bleed. He was a purebred american lab that my wife bought me as a christmas present(he was 6 wks old) We got the english lab on the left when he was 2 yrs old (within a month of getting diesel) from a shelter. Diesel was a 6yr old puppy right up till the day we had to put him down. One of the most gentle, energetic, loveable and carefree dogs who's ever been a part of our family. The wife and I finally just started looking at getting another dog...more than likely will be another rescue. Sorry about the cellphone pic...it's the only one I have at work

Sorry to hear. Kids loosing pets are hard to deal with it.

What kind was it?

Sent from my iPhone using IH8MUD

Leopard Gecko, cool little reptile. She bought her when she was only 3" long about 5 years ago (hence the attachment).

Not a pet I would recommend, because of the care involved to keep them healthy.

Hate to hear about your loss. This whole thread always hits me since I know that I've got a loss coming soon. Take care.

Raj the Sheepdog

Unfortunately, this morning I had to put my 11 year old sheepdog Raj down. His heart had enlarged and was causing him great pain in breathing and having a good life. It was a tough decision but the best one for Raj.

Many of you have hung out with Raj on the trails over the years--Coal Mine in 2005, many Death Valley trips, Rubithon, Dusy Ershim, Hole in the Rock, Southern Utah, Cruise Moab's, Surf and Turf--Raj was the consummate Cruiser Dog and a great, great friend and constant in my life for 11 years. He did many things that even people dream of doing and he had a great, energetic and exciting life.

He will be missed. :frown: :crybaby:

Great trip and indeed I think it was Raj in Butte Valley at the spring by the Geologist's Cabin.

Sieg and Raj were like two peas in a pod during that trip (any many others when they were together).

Great times indeed Dan, great times.

What a life! Lucky for both of you to have shared it together. We will all toast the memory of that perfect pooch in our lives, these are the good times...

It tough to loose your friends, but life would suck without them. I've transitioned to gen 2 with both of mine in the past 3 years. I still miss the first two, but my new girls are both terrific.

Indeed Rob. CDans sentiments were similar today.... And CDan spent a lot of time with my dumb dog...

This thread always gives me mixed emotions of very happy fond memories and a very deep sense of loss. It's been a bit over a month since I've had to put my yellow (and last) lab Jackson down.

Miss you guys...hope you're having fun running through all the fields and gorging yourselves on food. I know you guys will be waiting..until then love yea guys.

My mother's cat Psycho had to be put down yesterday morning. She had him at the emergency vet getting a kidney issue treated and they found out he had very aggressive bladder cancer, so rather than do the selfish thing and let him live in pain for her peace of mind, she decided that it was time to let him go. Luckily her and my sister were there to say goodbye and he kept nuzzling their hands with his head and purring right up until the first drug made him doze off. We got him as a barely-weaned kitten when I was 13 and he lived just a couple months over 20 years. He had a long, healthy, comfortable life and died happy with "mama" right there petting him.

Whenever I took leave to go visit my folks he would trot right up to me meowing as if he thought I was home to stay again. I was also the only one he trusted enough to lay on his back on my lap to trim his claws.

I'm gonna miss the old boy.
