Yeah, I can see the argument both ways, and really the only way to know is to measure the difference (which in the same truck would be a huge PITA to do). I don't have time to remove it. You can see how it's done the easy way in sleepy's thread.

Looks great Esh! My better half just laughed when i said she could "help" me install mine... lol.

what's the double door coverage? two layers, or outermost skin and inner door skin?

rob

Kind of a mix of both. Rick from RAAMaudio recommends doing the outer skin, getting rid of the plastic vapor barrier and doing the inner as well. He also advises to double up behind your speaker location. Link to his HOWTO- RAAMaudio - Quality and Value in Automotive Sound Deadening

If I can get some basic coverage in the fenders and doors I'll be happy. I think I'll need 1.5 rolls to do all the coverage I want (so 2.5 rolls total), and I have 2 rolls. Need to order more for the hilux anyways, but it'll have to happen after my trip.

I bought a roll of RAAMAT for my 60, but then decided to use it on my 55. I did however use it on the 60 under the bonnet , over the transmission hump and over the rear wheel arches. I also used a bubble wrap type heat insulated material (used on buildings - got it free from work) and then a rubber based domestic carpet underlay and then the Vinyl flooring. It is quite as! Iwish I had of used the RAAMAT all over now. I didn't realise exactly how good it would be. Having said that, there is no way that I'm taking it all back up now!

Here is the tail end of the floor finished. We nearly did 2 rolls of RAAMmat, adding another layer by tapping around and listening for resonance. I think the foam they sell really helped too. Can't wait to take it up to the mountains tomorrow for a test drive. My valve ticking can barely be heard now (couple tight valves, waiting for shims from Japan...). Probably take another 2 rolls to do vertical areas. Should be a vault by then. :D

Vinyl floor is really good in the rear, from the front bolts of the front seat on back. They only messed up one mould, possibly for a 60/40 front split seat, from how the mould is placed and how the stock setup is.

Front section seems much worse. My newbie hole cutting probably doesn't help, but it seems like it needed more time with the mould tool or whatever they use. Still, I think I got just what I wanted- basic utility floor that fits. I haven't done anything to get the front section to fit better. It is just laying on the foam.

Looks good. I shanked the cutting of the holes for the levers. Had to patch it. Quiet now though!

Just a thought... I had a 60 (neighbor has is now) in which the PO took old wetsuits- freaked me out the first time I pulled the carpet- to deaden sound and insulate. It worked very well and was not as prone to retaining moisture like the factory fuzzy padding.. Neoprene in bulk is probably a bit hard to find but might be an excellent alternative under the vinyl or carpet. . Whether or not you glue it in or not would be a personal preference.
Thanks for the info esh and others.

Esh - what's the latest on this? How do you like the dampener? Where's the final pics of the vinyl installed? :p

I got mine and started installing in last week. Doesn't look all that spectacular, but should be very practical. I did get the left (DS) foot pad which is at least on the correct side... I thought i remembered yours was on the PS.

Anyway - just thought i'd bug you for an update and the final pics.

How long did it take you to get your flooring from AU? Also the cost?

We need pictures from everyone on this.

Bomar - though i have it i don't know i'd recommend anyone buy from them. Super crappy customer service. Took months to get here - no responses to my Q's regarding ETA/Tracking info.

As for cost, i think it's gone up since then. I priced out the same pieces i got and it was nearly 500 USD. (front, back, cargo, and wheel covers). No backing - i'm using my sound deadener as the underlay replacement. I've heard from someone that the soundproof and waterproof underlay they sell at a decent premium is crap.

SOMEONE (i think in this thread) had found another supplier of molded vinyl - maybe we can get in touch with them and get an update...

I have some pics in my removing headliner thread. I'll get more pics as i finish installing the vinyl. But that is after i finish the sound deadener... So not this week at least.

I still haven't done my doors or any other vertical panels yet, but I'm happy so far. Been working on gauges and getting the engine fine tuned. Bent up some pipe to follow the dash contours and mounted all my gadgetry with RAM u-bolt mounts. Still have half my sound system to install, but my main trips are done so I should be able to get back to it.

The flooring is under a bunch of storage so no pics. :D

The vinyl floor was just what I wanted- practical and easy to vacuum out the dust and dog hair. I had a good experience with the seller and mine probably ran less as I just got the front and rear passenger sections.

Let me be fair here. Looking for the other molded vinyl options i reread the thread. In fact i did reach someone at all car carpets (David). Communication was slow, but did occur. I never want to knock someone unfairly, especially a company supporting a niche community like ours.

So in fairness, though there were delays, it was not too bad of service. Delays also could be due to customs, etc. It took a while longer than i expected (and i'm pretty laid back normally), but showed up with all parts ordered.

I will get pics of it and post them up - but they look almost identical to Esh's (almost same color i think too), though i also have the rear wheel covers and cargo area vinyl.

Don't know if anyone else is interested in these. I have been looking for this solution for a while. Doing RAAMmat sound deadening and wanted utilitarian flooring over it.

It is about USD300 shipped from Australia. Covers front and rear seating area.

He also sells just the front area for about 2/3 the price. Comes in cruiser color schemes.
