I wasn't asked at all about my seat mounts. I left 3 phone messages yesterday and 1 today, but my calls haven't yet been returned.

I am at the stage where I m about to concede that I won't receive my underlay. I have left 8 phone messages in the last two days (their number goes to a paging service) and an email, yet I have had no response. Not sure at what stage it becomes stalking. I'm most annoyed at a lack of acknowledgement and also the apparent untruth that I was told - no way could the underlay have been shipped at the beginning of last week. Not happy..........:bang:

Guy -
It's obvious they're ignoring you but you're probably not alone. Can you email them for a tracking #? Sometimes gentle persistence pays off. Unless they've completely stopped doing everything, they're being selective. My guess is cash flow is tight so they're doing anything they can to improve that, like shipping new orders. Dunno how strong the AUS consumer protection laws are, but maybe a call or email to their local consumer protection agency is in order.

I've been watching this develop as I've wanted vinyl mats since before MAF quit carrying them (had them in a HiLux 2WD). But then I've modified the driver's floor area for more legroom (removed the pedal stop & installed a Lokar cable pedal). If they can't handle "stock" I wouldn't even try custom with them.

Sixty's - sorry to hear your frustration w/ these guys. I haven't called them, and they have been slow to respond via email. I have been talking with David via email (sales@allcarcarpets.com.au). Obviously a general mail box, but maybe address him and see if you get a response. Might take a day or two...

also - i always purchase items like this with my credit card. That way if i need to they can work to resolve if there are major issues. Benefit of paying the interest - a bit more protection.

GL and let us know how it turns out!

Well I received a phone call from David from All Car Carpets this morning (Saturday). He was very apologetic and said that his paging service has been on the blink since Tuesday. He sais that he definetely sent the underlay last week. He is going to send me a new set of underlay on Monday and throw in some floor mats for the inconvenience. Looks like I will finally get my underlay!

Sixty's - great to hear! I just got my confirmation that it has shipped, but will probably take a bit through customs and such. No worries though - plenty keeping me busy!

cross linking threads since i've sent a bunch of people here w/ q's about the vinyl - here's my damplifier install thread.

Well I am kind of pleased to announce that my underlay turned up today. I'm kind of kicking myself now, that I let this frustration get to me so much. The underlay is well, not really underlay! I opened up the pack when I got home from work and once I realised what it was started laughing out loud. It is a stiff foam abut 5mm thick. Kind of like one of those el cheapo sleep mats that I slept on in the tent when I was a kid, but thinner. It is quite rigid and I can see that it will not obviously mould to the 60's transmission tunnel. I think I will toss it (or it would make a good ground sheet to lay on under the cruiser) and buy some proper underlay. I can't beleive that I have been without flooring on my 60 for close to 10 weeks while I have been waiting on this!

I bought the waterproof underlay. It's my fault for not confirming exactly what it was before purchasing, but I was thinking that its was a roll of soft foam/rubber that would nicely lay over the transmission hump etc. But it's not, it's quite rigid. I can see the funny side of it - I got myself quite wound up about this!

There is a carpet shop down the road from work that has scrap bin that you can scrounge in for free, so I think I'll try to get some rubber underlay from there.

Here is the site I was reading for the deadening materials comparison- Sound Deadener Showdown

Speaking of that famous Showdown, has anybody compared prices (and quality) between Damplifier Pro and the CAE V-Max?

update: As I wrote this, I got an email back from CAE:
VMAXBP = $353.90. UPS Ground = $29.31 (to my zip, your shipping will be different, I am sure).

Also, anybody ever seen a Bedliner Showdown?

I'm interested to see how Rhinoliner, Herculiner/Durabak, Hippoliner, ArmorThane, GatorHyde, etc. stack up in a side by side comparison, especially over time. (I'm posting this same quesiton in the bedliner thread).

how many sq ft for the CAE at that price?

EDIT - i got my DP 160sqft for 550 - so not the same...

So i pulled tech specs on both:

DP

Specification

Adhesive = Viscoelastic butyl rubber - 99.4% solids content
Weight = .65 lbs per sq. foot
Foil thickness = 6 mils (6/1000")
Total thickness = 70 mils (70/1000")
Thermal limit = 500 degrees f.
Sheet Size = 12" x 20" (1.66 sq. ft. ea.)

V-Max
Thickness: .060”
Weight: .35 lbs. sq. ft.
Dimension: 12.5” x 30”
Flame Resistance: FMVSS-302 passes with a rating of B<1.0
Flash Point: 248°C (=478F)

SO - i know that weight is the biggest part of the dampener - more weight = better dampening. Thickness, and the Foil (don't see specs on V-max) acts as another barrier.

so someone smarter than I can hopefully compare the two. From the weight perspective i think DP should perform better as a dampener - but i'm a noob...

about the same heat rating - shouldn't fall off of vertical surfaces if applied correctly even in a hot car.

the DP looks to be much heavier, and with thicker dampener, definitely thick foil.

take that as you will.

GL!

Any idea how thick would a spray/roll on bedliner would have to be to act as a decent sound dampener? I'm struggling to figure out what to do here, as I really hate carpet and don't care for the vinyl flooring much either. I ended up being disappointed with the SOR diamond plate patterned vinyl flooring. I wish they would have mixed in some fibrous material to make it rip-resistant. You can easily rip it, and mine looked like crap after 6 months.

I have looked at bedliner as more of a utility feature. Something to protect and make cleanup easy vs something to quiet down road noise. You will probably get some deadening, but not much.

I bought a can of Herculiner a few months back with the idea of brushing it on my sliders. Did one slider and determined I was an idiot and should have just done the surfaces I wanted grip.. Herculiner has a harder, more sandy/gritty finish, which was what I was going for to get grip (winter trips can be treacherous). Then I thought why not just get grip tape like material and really be done with it? Sometimes it takes me a while... I did mask of some parts of my rear bumper ladder and brushed some on. Works awesome for a grippy surface, but at 20 or 30 a can there is probably a cheaper solution, like buying sand to mix into a small can of paint?

I've thought about doing some spray deadener - they say 1.5mm to 3mm for good effect. 3mm is supposed to be as effective as DP (approx).

i actually bought a HVLP gun specifically to lay it down smooth, all the liner guns put it down like 10 grit sandpaper.

Finally got a little start on the RAAMmat- well, my better half did. I was working on a fan shroud. She worked a lot faster than me. Exactly one roll covered the entire floor, and I suspect I may have more than the 2nd roll in the doors, fenders, kick panels, firewall, and tailgate. I want to do double door coverage as described on the RAAMmat web site.

laying down small sections of RAAMmat made it go easier than working with larger strips. Black duct tape was to just keep clean from butyl-like gunk from seams. Can see black paint from patched holes in the floor.

couple shots of the process. The black goop on the hands cleaned off easily.

utility knife's butt was nice to shape the RAAMmat around bumps and ridges in the floor
