But if it was mine, would it be any different?
I have a video on my YT talking about 80 series and pricing well before this thread started. And got it bang on. It's going up.
And when a market goes up, it induces people that buy and sell naturally.
If it was going down, that would mean there would be no flippers, no market and this thread wouldn't exist.

its crazy how much of a premium is commanded by the LHD models. USDM FZJ80s in similar condition/miles have gone for around 4x that amount recently. Are they really 4x better than a JDM Cruiser?

I think "better" is subjective. I'd assume it's more to do with people not wanting to be RHD in a LHD world.

I love RHD Cruisers. Glad the prices are reasonable. Way more fun to drive than LHD, and isn't variety the spice of life?
To me, RHD Diesels should go at a premium. When I discovered my first Diesel, I got more in this order:
JDM HZJ73
JDM HJ61
JDM HDJ81

The Aussies are keeping their mouths shut. They don't want us to discover the Diesel LCs that we never got in the US. They want to keep them all to themselves. But Diesel LCs go for more than gassers down under.

A lot. For starters, that's the best color IMO.

This one in Haines, AK is more my speed. It's the same price I paid for mine a couple years ago from the same place. Mines not quite so rough though.

Sure, there might be some wealthy Cruiserheads willing to pay top dollar, but they’re usually looking for the cream of the crop, not someone’s 300,000 mile beater. Besides, they can only buy so many of these things.

The reality is that most people simply don’t have that much liquid cash to spend on an off-road toy or project vehicle. That’s why I think we see the bifurcated market with eye-popping auction results for low-mileage unicorns, but then the solid driver down the street ends up sitting on Marketplace for weeks without selling.

That's a lot of miles. And a lot of maintenance not listed. Plus a hg that isn't mentioned.

Rust? To me that's a project that needs a lot of money to be a trust worthy adventure rig.

I am not saying it is as the condition of the Cruisers backs up the mileage, however I always look at the odometer. If the numbers don’t align it can indicate a roll back. Roll backs are fairly common in Japan.

It seems like the market has cooled some prise wise. Still seeing some crazy out there though. 265,000 mile 94 near me for 25,000.

I feel trucks without justified work (paint, bumpers, recent mechanical work) will be hard pressed to break the $16,000-$18,000 mark regardless of miles. This goes for the low owner, no major accident and no rust examples.


To break $16k-$18k, you better come equipped with some elbow grease invested. (New this, new that, just bought and installed this, etc.)

Well, as you have probably seen, I have a WTB classified posted, but it has gained nothing but responses from people who have a low IQ.

So, I missed out earlier this week on a 143K mile rig in California that met all my requirements, except it had leather seats. It was a BaT worthy vehicle, without the BaT price, and lower than what the price would typically be on Mud. ...$25,800.


This is one I looked at, but it ended up getting sold (twice), but those two buyers didn't follow through, and the owner called me and said it was available again.

Meets all my requirements, except for the leather seats.

Funds sent off for a pretty good deal, the owner was honest, and said the birfields need to be redone.

Premium rigs will continue to bring premium money and finding a “Great Deal” on one is a fantasy, there are only so many! In most cases if you really want one, pay what they are worth and enjoy the appreciation and you will be ecstatic in 5 years!!!

Rust and accident free is becoming hard to find, low mileage is now less than 200k, and rare configurations; Poverty Packs, 95+ with Cloth seats, roof rack/spoiler delete, Sage 40ths, Desert Dune CE’s, single tone Moonglow, heck even good Green and Red factory paint, or solid white/black trucks, especially triple locked are all becoming unicorns!

The great thing about the current market is there are some solid adventure rigs at more reasonable prices, of $10-$20k.

Yeah, they all have bad paint, maybe a little rust, or need major baseline maintenance, hopefully there are a few mods to offset the compromises, but these rigs get more folks in the hobby of enjoying 80’s and that is a good thing!

It wasn't Triple Locked. Although that's my favorite interior for an 80-series.
