Looking GREAT!

I love that Red, mine will start this summer, I hope but I have a funny feeling that my garage will have quite the blue tint to it once I get done!

I'm down here near Ft. Bragg. Thanks on the color comment I used T309(Freeborn) and I'm using a Acrylic enamal, so it's a little less forgiving than say a two stage.

It's alive

:bounce2: :bounce:

I started Terminal leave and am on vaction for the next 50 days, after ten years, no more Army:cheers: .
After a full day yesterday and another day today, the beast runs and idles...Still running a bit lean though. I was mulling it over and am wondering if it's lean because of the lack of exhaust manifold (replaced by headers) or if my accelerator pump is going out. Any thoughts? I'm getting a lag and backfire out the carb on sudden gas.

Now no more excuses time to get the final coat of paint on it. Do any of you guy's have some suggestions on seats or should I stick with OEM? Looks like I'll be wrenching hard for the next couple of weeks. I'll update with pics as things change.

 For your tenure serving and for getting it running. Congrats.

Glad to see you back working on this!! We need updated pictures now!

I'd stick with the original seats. I really like the looks of the OEM seats. I think they would look nice in your rig. Some may argue that are are more comfortable seats out there, but I find the originals to be comfortable enough for me. If you wanted to change there are millions of seat choices out there.

More pics...Seat Idea!

What do you guys think about the fiberglass Hood? I'm not to keen on it, I really like the vents in the Stock hood, unfortunatlly mine look like Ricky Lake tap danced on it. ENJOY

Seats are always a tough choice to make. The PO of my cruiser put $300/ea Corbeau seats in from SOR and they are incredibly uncomfortable. For the price, he could have gone to any junk yard and pulled nice seats from a beemer or volvo. If you decide to replace what you have, let me know and I'll make you a deal on your oem seats.

Enjoy your terminal leave. Thanks for your service! Hooah!

Wow! Great thread. I love your work so far. Your paint sounds like it is turning out better than my first attempt on a '64 Ford. I had rus everywhere. Looking forward to seeing more pics.

Hey Kelly, this is Stephen, the guy that came down with Eric and picked up youre old tub. The build up is looking great! It was a pleasure to see it in person. Keep up the good work!

Stephen, thanks...Believe it or not, three days ago was the first time I had touched it since you guy's were down. I appreciate the comments. I plan on hitting it hard for the next couple of weeks to get it done. I know I'll miss URE this year but just getting it on the road will be enough. It's been over two years now.:crybaby:

Well,

Four months later and were finally getting somewhere. I still need to get glass on the windo but I painted quite a bit and have decided to go with the fiber hood while I work on the original. the wife and I actually threw on some goggles and went for a mile test drive(motivational) Soon...very soon, this beast or as I have so affectionatly named her :ban: PIG FU&*ER will be on the road. I'll update with better pics when BOB comes up in the morning!

Great write-up! Be persistent on restorations...I can relate as my last project took 2 years too.

I've got the Aqualu tub+cowl and I've spent ~30+ hours just sanding down the aluminum. While I'm not concerned about the tig lines, my painter buddy feels like we need to scuff all aluminum surfaces to ensure proper paint ashesion. So when we combine it with the self-etching epoxy primer we should get great adhesion.

Great to know of another Aqualu tubbed FJ40 here in NC!

Kelly,

That looks awesome. i am also in the Bragg AO. Restoring a 61 FJ40 ever so slowly. Have to link up and pick your brain (especially on the painting). I am still in the teardown phase. Trying to clean and R&R stuff as I go. wcdeod@earthlink.net
