I cheated and bought this one through rube bonet on 4BTSwaps. I can take as many measurements as you'd like so that you can order the same, or a similar, one if you'd like!

How big is the air inlet on it?

Filter housing inlet is 5", filter housing outlet (to turbo) is 4".

Nice, dig the overhead console.

I put a UMP in my 91 80. It was a bitch cause I had to relocated the battery to the back of the truck but that filter/housing rocks hard. Right after I installed it I drove to Baja. Didn't check the filter until I got home 3 week later. Barely even dirty and I did lot's of dusty road driving. You won't be disappointed with that filter. I am sold on these housing/filters. Will be using one in my 77 Patrol, my 83 Patrol and in the 62/80 build up.

Cheers

Since you've had one, did you find it necessary to seal the bottom hatch to the filter body? Currently it's just that wingnut and lid that fits inside of the larger housing, so I presume it'd let in water if submerged.

Mine seems to seal good. There is the tit on the bottom of it that may require sealing if you deep ford. In fact you may want to test it in a bath tub or something before doing any deep fording. Have not had to worry about this on mine yet, no deep fording to date.

Cheers

very interested in your air filter project .. since mine ( stock 2H ) didn't keep up with my turbo requirements ..

BTW I know some history of that console ..

drop me a mail I'll tell ya .. nothing bad and indeed it came from Venezuela years ago, like 2007 IIRC

I think that this air filter housing I bought is going to be too big

@Mr Cimarron , what are the dimensions of the filter housing you have?

That sucks. I am out of town until next Wednesday. I'll measure it when I get back home if you haven't found the specs by then.

Mine uses filters P601280 (outer) & P601286 (inner) if you can compare specs with yours.

Your filter is one inch less diameter and one inch less length than mine, so I bet your housing is about 1" less all around. This housing wouldn't close under the hood by a good two inches.

Is the 80 underhood space that much better than the 60?

Also, no way this style of filter housing would work with a snorkel in a 60. The filter inlet is way too close to the firewall.

Sounds like it's time to relocate a thing or two. There's got to be a way to cram in more stuff!

That's the thing. I already removed the windshield washer bottle as well as the AC lines. The hood won't close with this big UMP air filter when it's sitting on the inner fender.

I think if I modify the inner fender to allow me to drop the air cleaner towards the axle a bit that it'll work.

So what's interesting is that the filter housing you are using is rated for 357CFM @ 10"H2O. Based on my reading, the 4BT needs at 500CFM. Based on your filter setup (that obviously works well) I could move to a filter that runs ~250cfm and be just fine. That means that this housing and donaldson P181059 will work just fine, and be the size I need. The question is, will the smaller lower CFM really pose a problem :hmm:

I run the r2c filters and really like them. To best answer your question with the filter number (10905L) call R2C performance and tell them that you have some filter questions. They will send you to their filter guy who is very helpful and knowledgeable; just let him know what you are running and what your target boost is to make sure the filter will flow what your engine needs. In fact I just chatted with him today and ordered a black media filter for street use since my compounds really need more air than the white media I'm running. I'll clean my white media and use it for offroad use; I'll just keep it in the truck and swap over when I get to a trail.

Which R2C filter are you running?

That's a good idea. I think I will call them.
