I should have taken more videos. I was the tail gunner in the group and most of the time was spent helping the trucks in front of me get through. The trails we ran are more difficult than those videos really show :D

That's the way I'm leaning Elbert, except 1.5 or 2 ton, so I can incorporate a sleeper. I'm thinking of either converting a school bus or buying a 24' box truck / cab and chassis to convert.

user "Bossman" from AR...took some type of 2ton box van body truck.....cut up part of the box and made sleeper setup, and then make the rest of a flatbed for the trail rig. I was hunting my bookmark for that but was not able to find it. I don't know if the new forum did away with my old bookmarks. Anyway no trailer involved... I've seen some others do something similar...good idea if you have the skills to make it work. Be cool to find a 4 door 2ton rig and setup something like that.

I think I have that right...I can't access the thread he made for that, but anyway it was some combination of a 2ton truck box van...modified for sleeping quarters and then storage area for trail rig, and I want to say from memory the tail section was flat bed.

Sounds like you had a mad learning curve mate! I'd hate to lose the pyro over the boost gauge, I'd be sh1ting bricks too! The workshop always lures me into a false sense of security before hitting the mud.

Sounds like the axle may have saved you a new xcase, when you look at the split case check out some builds that have done rear digs, I'm not sure it has been done on the h55f yet.
Have you considered open ended Dana 60's? I know it's probably on the long long term list and the factory 9.5" is mostly up to the task but that cemetery type wheeling is typically where you'll kill axles because you're dug in on all corners, then it's only a hop and a skip to portal axles...... :D

Also maybe consider not using the pod filter they aren't the best at filtering the fine dust that kills diesels and any hint of water will have you towing back.

Johnny, your neighbors are gonna love you. Where would you park it?

My house!

I'll have to look that up. Sounds like exactly what I want :D

Couple of things. I have a NV4500 transmission and a Dana 300 transfer case, with a Dana 60 front axle and an AAM 10.5 (14 bolt) rear axle. She is very heavy duty. I thought that my 1310 U-Joints would be the weak point, but that yoke blew instead! I think it has to do with factors outside of the component itself (loose bolts (possibly), driving technique, etc.).

I agree completely on the air filter. The reason why I'm running this cheap unit is because I've got limited space on my passenger side for a nice big air filter, due to the big turbo, AC lines, power lines, and most importantly, my windshield washer bottle. I need to find a new spot for my washer bottle and clean up my AC lines, then I'll have more room. It's on the list of things to do :D

I don't know the part number. I am using the factory AC compressor, alternator, thermostat and mounting bracket fora 1998 6BT. I haven't got mine working yet because my compressor is bad and it costs $350 by itself

... If not I may just try and fab my own up.

Do this!! I need to make a bracket and I'd like to see what you come up with. I originally thought I'd use the factory FJ60 compressor adapted but would rather keep it simple with one belt plus I don't know if that compressor is any good anyways.

About 2ton truck mod...the reply/quote thing is not working right for this msg...

See this.. see post 971 and then look back through the thread for details. some of my notes are wrong that I said from memory but it sounds like something that might give you some ideas.

Is that a sanden compressor? The one I'm looking at is 155.00

I'd still have to have hoses adapted etc..

J, that sanden looks right, but I'd need to have the bolt hole measurements to make sure it was correct. If it would mount up to a 1998 Dodge Ram, then that would probably work better than the stock one I have!

There have been a bunch of custom brackets for AC compressors over on 4BTSwaps, either involving a high mount PS compressor that uses the serpentine, or a high mount DS that uses the auxilary drive v-belt off of the fan pulley. Keeping individual systems stock is important to me, which is why I used the factory bracket, thermo, alternator, ac compressor and belt.

I'll have to look that up. Sounds like exactly what I want :D

Thank you sir! I'll look through that now!

well that link is only part of the picture....I know he posted up a number of pics and details on that truck...apparently not in the thread I pointed to. You might pm Bossman for details or proper link

Are yours the Hutchinson rubber runflats? If they are, there a special high heat lube that gets put in to reduce the friction between the tires and run flats. It could save your tires and inserts.

I've never taken my wheels and tires apart, at least not the ones that are on my truck right now. They're whatever rubber runflats come from the military.

It was a highlight seeing Moonshine pushing Cam's 40 back. Damn wish I got video!
