Build Montina and The Blue Plate Special

It’s been a long hot summer in South Georgia but the weather has been on the cooler side recently so I’m going in Montina’s pto to replace the rear seal. It came apart pretty easily since it has been smothered in gear oil. Took the seal up to the local carquest and found a possible replacement and a cutout paper gasket. The seal is all rubber so will give it a try to see if it will work.

Still hot in my shop, but I managed to get the new seal and paper gaskets back on the PTO. I topped it off with 90w and took it for a spin around the block and checked for leaks and so far the seal is working. The new seal was encased all around in rubber and had a cup that gave it an additional seal to the outside and seems to add an additional safeguard.

I switched up tires on the rigs and now Montina is riding on the cooper MT’s. I adjusted the tie rods a bit to take care of some vague steering but now it pulls a bit to the left so I need to get one of the steering alignment rail sets to get it more dialed. I am glad I used anti seize on the ends.
Also adjusted timing and the idle adjustment and it’s as good as it has ever been.

Look like a relay of some sort. Small black wire looks like a ground, easy enough to test with VOM. The whole unit looks like its mounted to a disconnected starter solenoid.

I would see where the wires go. Start with disconnecting the battery ground - then unhook those wires and tape them up plus marking their location. Re-connect the battery and see if all your systems still work

It looks like some sort of circuit breaker, certainly not stk. I'd try to figure out what it's powering.

Back to getting the 79 running, after assessing the fuel tank I deemed it too rusty inside to use so, just like Montina, I am replacing the fuel system except for the carb. New reproduction tank from cruiser corps is painted. Also bought a new oem fuel pump and oem sending unit from city racer. The new tank came with a dent but it’s on the top so moving ahead with it.

Will start a new thread for the latest addition “Buttercup” the ‘72 which I acquired this summer from another mud member from
Atlanta. I drove it the four hours back to the farm. Lots of interesting mods on this one, Chevy 350, sm365, shackle reversal, front disk brakes, 33” maxis tires, 4plus carrier, power steering, etc. I absolutely love how this drives and tons of power. Really low first gear is very handy. I flushed the cooling system a few times and changed to synthetic 10-30w oil. This this screams down the road. It feels like a whole different truck compared to Montina.

Out with the old bumper, top plates, and took off the Ramsey pto winch. On with new oem plates and fresh bumper from Decatur Toyota. I reused the OG bolts until the new set gets here from CCOT. Decatur gave me a great deal and their packaging for shipping was excellent! The winch must weigh 100lbs. I can definitely tell the difference in how out handles with the winch off.

Gotta love old trucks. Slam into a telephone pole? No problem, just bolt on a new bumper.

If that had been any modern vehicle, you'd be dealing with insurance and repairs for months.

Yeah no frame damage thank goodness. $150 for new bumper and top plates with shipping was a great deal.

The bumper being available is so rad.
I remember a few years ago feeling like I leveled up when I bought my new bumper from the dealer. Even the parts guys were blown away.
