I use a big plastic box, when empty of firewood use to haul out the garbage.

Yeah, I have to score a second can first and yeah I am not set-up at all to carry two in fact this will be my first time carrying my single can on a gas basket hitched into my tire swing.

So where is Beale Mtn. is it labeled as "Camp Future" on your GPS file? That seems kind of far so thinking it is near Deer Springs.

Beale Mountain is marked as Camp D-2 and next to it is another flag that says Big Rock on Ollies GPX file. Is it due West of Cima Road. Check the Google Maps I posted. Ollie is talking about a short cut there? The only shortcut I can think of is the old road past the airstrip (see lime green road from Kelso Depot north to the Mojave Road. I don't think that road gets traveled much so hopefully less whoops although the section from Cima Road to Beale Mountain is very very scenic even if it is a whoop ass road.

You are spot on for both counts Scott. Chazz emailed me that the other proposed route to Camp 2 is an old pole line road that has a lot less whoop activity. It is more of a direct shot to camp too so I'm willing to give it a shot unless we all agree to use the old route.

I can carry extra cans on my rack. I was planning on bringing two but can bring 3-4 if needed. any suggestions on getting firewood up top and securing it down?

Please bring the extra cans. It's a 3 day trip and we really can't afford to make a huge detour to get fuel. The Mojave Road and our extra detours and stops will eat fuel, most rigs are loaded down and there is more climbing than you would think.

As for the firewood, it looks like you have a nice rack in your Avatar? I use lots of bungees and then good ratchet straps to further torque everything down. A small tarp always helps to keep things in place as well.

Looking forward to see you guys at the Avi.

That's a great idea. I wanted to try that road when I lead that run a couple years ago but was afraid it would have lead to us reaching camp after dark if the shortcut did not work out. Let's do it.

If I could reserve one of your gas cans I would appreciate it.

I can bring an empty black trunk that latches shut so we don't have to un-strap it from your rack to access the wood at camp.

OK, that looks like what is also considered Mojave Camp. Yeah, I see it under the Big Rock camera now no Camp D-2 note tho. But if that's the camp spot for D-2, Sunday looks like its going to be a long day. I personally think we can get further on Saturday like maybe around Cima Cinder Mine.

What is the Big Rock camera? Is that on Google Earth or Delorme? Ollie's flags are on the Delorme GPX. file and there would not be a camera icon on that. Either way Ollie has the trip planned out pretty well and there is a reason the Mojave Camp spot is used so often, it's a great location for ending day two and departing from, to finish up the Mojave Trail. A large portion of Sunday's trail is fast paced but I don't think anyone will mind if you decide to move on and camp closer to the Cima Cinder Field. You may even consider going to the "Seventeen Mile Point" which is also another well known campsite. I don't recall any particularly inviting campsites near the Cinder Field but I'm sure others may recommend.a good spot?

If we get to Camp 2 earlier in the day, we can push on if everyone wants too.
"Camp Future" on your tracks is supposedly a great camp spot but there's a conflict as whether or not it's in wilderness land or not. Cima Cinder area doesn't really have any great camp spots do to the volcanic rock we'd have to set on and you are pretty exposed. The other camp options are too the east of the Cinder fields at the site of the old Mojave Cross. We'll play it by ear and see what we think as a group.

Checked out the 10 day forecast for a few towns in the area and looks like we will have clear blue skies and be a little warm donw in the valleys.

Cima, CA: Fri 72-52, Sat 78-57, Sun 78
Barstow, CA: Fri 84-51, Sat 87-55, Sun 89
Baker, CA: Fri: 91-61, Sat 96-66, Sun 98

I am jealous. Even though I just ran Mojave in the rain and snow, I'll be thinking about you guys! I'm stuck playing in the Couples Club Golf Tournament this weekend, otherwise I'd have loved to run it again this year.

You ought to have great weather!!! Enjoy you bastards!!!:flipoff2:

Looks like the weekend weather is forecasted to drop a few degrees across the board now so maybe not as warm.

EPIC trip. Thanks to everyone that made it possible. I went into this trip not knowing what to expect because I pretty much ignored the GPS/Agena talk since I don't have any type navigation setup to plug it into :hillbilly:. I was blown away by the amount of stuff we did/see. I had an absolute blast doing some really cool stuff with my 80. My odometer decided to break before we hit the dirt but those washboard roads managed to get my CDL unstuck in time for some interesting stuff. Again thanks for letting me tag along and next time I'll try to bring more firewood. :flipoff2:pictures soon.

Oh yeah and I'm glad that Mojave green didn't kill Ben or we would have missed out on some really great stew. :p
