Anyone else here besides Boyd and myself planning on Moab this year? Registration will be opening 'sometime' in mid-January per the Rising Sun guys.
 
Man, I wish...

Hopefully taking the family to Ouray mid-year.
 
Just out of curiosity, what's your itinerary going to be? Are you driving the rigs there nonstop? Or pit stop along the way? I'm not a good long distance driver and last time we drove pretty much nonstop except for a couple hours sleep just before the Utah border.
 
That Kokopelli run looks like fun :steer:, but I'm not setup for camping yet.

It's a trip I sort of have an OK from the Princess but so is a Baja trip at the end of March to see the whales in *Edit* San Ignacio Bay. The Moab trip will require a rear Aussie locker installed. Not sure if I will be able to swing two EPIC trips and a locker not to mention time off without pay to make both trips.

Still trying to decide on this or something else later in the year.

How does this event typically work? Individual runs each day? If I go, I would stay in a hotel somewhere in town, and would want to go on several runs to make it worth the expense.

What are everyones plans?

This is the tentative schedule from another post:

Tuesday - Kokopelli run starts
Wednesday - San Rafael Swell run starts, Registration, Safety Inspection
Thursday - Guided Trail Runs, Vendor Night
Friday - Guided Trail Runs, Dinner, Raffle
Saturday - Guided Trail Runs
Sunday - Clean up and depart
 
Pretty much the same schedule every year. Kokopelli and San Rafael Swell runs fill up very quickly as to all the other runs once registration opens mid-January. Your choice on where to stay. Headquarters is at Slickrock Campground, but many do stay in rented condos or hotels. Trail runs on Thurs-Sat are all day runs. It's a 750 mile hump from south OC to Moab. Last year a few of us took off early and did a little sight seeing/wheeling in AZ/UT on the way to Moab. Lots of fun.

I 'may' drive all the way to Breckenridge to visit my mom again this year like I did two years ago. If they are already gone on their yearly 'escape mud season' RV trip, I'm absolutely in. We had a blast last year!

Sounds good Paul. Checking the cruisemoab site for registration opening almost hourly at this point! :idea: I'll let Henry take shotgun if you don't go.
 
Can anyone recommend clean inexpensive lodging? I was looking at Kokopelli Lodge, pricing is right and seems to get good reviews for the most part. Any personal experience with anything under $100/night?
 
Motel 6, Super 8 type motels close to Slickrock campground. No clue as to rates or if Rising Sun has negotiated a group rate at the one that's right next to Slickrock. Boyd has stayed at that one. Maybe he'll chime in as I can't remember the name of it. I've always crashed at Slickrock camping, so I'm of no other help. Here's Rising Sun's link to Lodging in Moab on the cruisemoab.com site.

Skipping San Rafael Swell this year. Would still like to plan on arriving in Moab Tuesday afternoon. Want to take Wednesday to go explore Arches Nat'l Park. I've not done that yet. Perhaps help the Rising Sun Club with registration as well.

First choices are Porcupine Rim Thursday, Fins & Things Friday and Wipeout Hill BBQ run on Saturday.

If I go, I am planning on arriving late afternoon Tuesday as well. Arches sounds good. I am interested in Hell's Revenge for sure. Maybe Golden Spike, but that may be too long of a day.

You'll enjoy San Rafael and Metal Masher. I haven't run Cliff Hanger or Fins & Things. Kurt and his gang do put on a good time! Tunes and food too!

EDIT: FYI - whatever you signed up for on Thursday will be overridden by San Rafael. It's Wed-Thurs., 2 day overnighter. Remember last year, I took off after we arrived in Moab Tuesday to drive the add'l 80 miles up to the campsite for The Swell run. Best arrive Tuesday afternoon before dark to be able to find the place and pitch your tent. You'll get back to Moab Thursday afternoon leaving your run choices for Friday and Saturday intact. They put on a nice spread of food Wednesday evening and again on Thursday morning if it stays the same as last year. Entertainment was a complete stage/sound system with a few of their guys on guitar, etc.

Personally on Wednesday, a kick back tourist day is about all I want to do with Arches Nat'l Park. You guys can go run Golden Spike if you want to. :D
 
Registration paid. Hope to make it this year, should be great. First choices are Fins on Thursday, Hell's on Friday and Kane on Saturday.
