I then cruised the Old Port Gibson Rd and came in the back side of Rocky Springs directly to the church. Very cool place.

I am sure you know this, but there is actually a nice "drive up" camping spot right by the church and not far from the creek/waterfall. We did a father-son camping trip there a couple of years ago and it was super easy and fun. Kids hiked the old trace, played in the creek, dads sat around the fire and drank booze, cobbler in the dutch oven, etc.. Good times.

Had to go to New Orleans for a party Labor Day weekend, but hightailed it out Sunday and drove up to Huntsville for the rest of the holiday (kids had off Tuesday, too). We hit the Space & Rocket Center, which I've wanted to do for years. It's a great museum, full of history. Cool military vehicles, rockets, interactive displays, a moon rock and the actual Apollo 16 command module. Also had a visiting exhibition on robotics. Huntsville is killer. Nice, clean, good food, thriving economy--it's adding to my "why do I live in Jackson" list. We liked it so much my wife wanted to drive by schools on our way out of town. We also hit the Monte Sano State Park which is right at the edge of town and Burritt on the Mount, which was this eccentric doctor's X shaped house on the mountain overlooking town. He built this incredible house like a fortress, but didn't put in hot water and and you had to go into the basement dungeon for the only shower. We also hit a hydroponic farm outside of town for a farm tour and bought some of the best lettuces and peppers I've ever eaten. iPhone Pics:

Coolest part was this guy: Roy Logston- he is a retired Nasa scientist who volunteers at the Rocket center. He spent an hour talking to my daughter and I about the Apollo missions, Skylab (including why it really ended early), the Kennedy declaration that we'd get to the moon in the decade (he was at Nasa then), and more. These guys are a treasure. Go talk to them before they die off.

Burritt on the Mountain has a whole history section with area cabins from the 1800's, farm animals, gardens, it's kind of like Nolen's house.

The museum is really cool. Been there multiple times.

I've been working in Huntsville for 2 yrs now.
Great booming economy. Businesses are moving here left and right (i.e. Polaris, Remington, etc...)
Reminds me of DFW in the early 90's. I hope it doesn't get out of hand like that.
Between the Automotive and DoD the South is really becoming the place to be for a lot of reasons.

Not sure, but I have wheeled more in this state than I ever imagined would be available.
But mostly I just kick it on the 8.5 acres and the bad ass lake I live close to.

I took the 60 to Yazoo City last week and checked out Glenwood Cemetery home of the Witchs Grave

I once bought a pair of FJ60s from a catfish farmer somewhere outside Yazoo City. Picked up an '81 and '86.

I keep gravitating to Alabama when I travel. A lot of bang for a short trip. I want to check out that museum. It looks great!

I took a ride to the Delta for work on Friday and then spent the afternoon exploring the central Mississippi Delta area. I started off the event with a quick look at Mont Helena, a Colonial Revival house built on an Indian mound in 1896.

Lunch is just south on Hwy 61 at Chuck's Dairy Bar. Its an awesome place I used to stop at on the way to Deer Camp west of Onward.

I decided to work my way from the South of the Sunflower WMA near Valley Park up through Spanish Fort and then back around North to South.

This small cemetary was built on a levee just on the edge of the Sunflower River

Cotton is king still in this part of the Delta
