Would love to do a canoe trip this summer with the CLC crew. Beer is a must so we need to keep that in mind...

Went to Ship Island this weekend. We camped at Buccaneer State Park in Waveland (pass) and went over to Ship for the 9:00 ferry. We got there at 10:00....walked across the island. Rented a chair and 2 boogie boards. 3 of us it was about $120 for all.....

The snack bar there has high school concession type food and beer. The boat also has the same food and beer.

After we screwed around on the island for about 3 hours, be headed back to Ft Massachusetts to mess around and get ready for the 2:30 departure.

A mini hurricane hit while we were still docked and beat the crap out of us. I am glad we survived. The non-swimmers on the boat were panicked.

Overall, it is worth the trip to see Ft M alone. Really amazing. I took my drone and got some great shots. I was a bit rushed due to the storm. I will post it up later

French Camp MS. MM 180 on the Natchez Trace

This is the home of my maternal Grandfather. He lived in a house that was situated just off the Trace near where the big White House is located now.

My mom consulted on all these building renovations. Most were moved here from local farms and restored.

Bear Creek in Tishomingo State Park in NE Mississippi is an amazing place that doesn't feel like Mississippi. There are hills and rocks and a clear water creek flowing through it.

We LUCKED OUT, on the weather. The forecast was for 95* and sunny but some storms were in the area and it was overcast and in the low 80's

The drive up the Natchez Trace, as always, was fantastic. It takes about 4 hours to get there from Jackson going 55 mph. We stopped at a few roadside spots, but it was a bit hot for it, so we pressed on to Tupelo......this takes about 3 hours.

We hit Kermit's Outlaw Kitchen for dinner (see the Where to Eat thread) and called it a night. The next day we hit the trace for a :45 run up. The State Park runs the shuttle service to the top. You have to be at the ranger station at 9:30 am. They ferry you up and you end up back where you parked in the park.

The cost is $32 per canoe.

The water was PERFECT. Nice and cool and it was running just enough to have some fun rapids and not to have to paddle unless you wanted to.

We got on the water about 10:30 and we were the last of the groups off at 1:15. You are allowed a small cooler. No alcohol but they did not check the cooler

Put this place on the list. It is awesome.
