I have to drive to Nashville next month for a meeting. Is it worth taking the Natchez Trace to see anything cool? Any other routes or suggestions?

I personally love the Trace. It’s a pretty awesome drive. I recommend it all the way to I40

On the way back head south to Huntsville and then cut back to tupelo across north Alabama.

How long you gonna be in town?

@jynx Just 2 nights and my days are packed with meetings so I’m guessing the traveling will be the most exciting part.

@AndyO78FJ40 depending on when you're gonna be up, and if you're not gonna be out with clients, let me know if you wanna grab a bite or a beer.

@WharfRat wanted to see the south part of the state so we hit the trail yesterday and did the central National Forest trail

Met up at Tommy’s on 43.

Other than a little dirt in the south section of Bienville NG it’s all narrow paved backroads.

3.5 hours to @SHUSH ’s store where we scooped up Jerry

After Ellisville it gets nice. Lots of dirt.

And mud.

We connected all these trails to my Homochitto trail via Red Bluff. It’s
All paved but it’s superb backroading.

@wngrog im really liking your tours of South MS. I didn’t know there was so much to see down there. Guess I need to get down and see for my self now.

Next time y’all are going out exploring let me know and I’ll come down from the delta.

I had to go to Tuscaloosa for work this week and took a little time exploring to and from.

Stopped in first at the Old Rattling Bridge at Chunky and walked around a bit.

After my lunch at Meridian I crossed into Alabama looking for an old Bridge I saved a picture of from Facebook.

Awesome old bridge that crosses the Tenn-Tom at Pennington Alabama.

I caught a tug shooting the gap at flood stage. He was fully getting it.

My hotel was right by the Tressel from Trussville. This thing is spectacular.

I got up early to check out Moundville Indian Mounds but they did not open until 9 so I decided to check out the section of Talladega National Forest just south of TTown.

I thought it would be relatively flat in here but it was wild and scenic with miles and miles and miles of gravel backroads. I can’t wait to go back and see more.

This thread inspired me to take the long way back home from GTR to Madison last Friday. Main attractions were the Noxubee Refuge and Tombigbee National Forest. Actually happened upon a very cool and primitive camping site in the middle of Tombigbee that I can't wait to enjoy at some point. The route I took was about 70% pavement, but there were some really cool things to see that one doesn't think about being in Mississippi. The trip re-instilled what I already knew about needing to get out and explore the State more. It also made me think about how I didn't realize at the time how cool our back roads really are back when it was a normal thing for us to do on a Saturday night when at State.

Here are a few photos along the way. I didn't really "stop and smell the roses" as much as would've liked to because I was eager to get home to the family after being gone for a week.

Let me know if you want me to send you the route.

For some reason this spot reminded me of where my Dad and I used to ride dirt bikes down in Scutchalo.
