Took a trip down to Laurel yesterday to pick up a disc brake axle for the 40 project. Had a nice visit with fellow mudder, halcyon morgan, and took the slow road home following most of the “ellisville to canton” portion of @wngrog’s trans-mississippi tracks.

Laurel is a great town and nice to see it rebounding back into some of its former glory days when timber, oil and railroads ruled the day:

How'd the Travelall drive on your backroads trip?

How'd the Travelall drive on your backroads trip?

Most of it was pavement.

I think a big part of my issue is that iron man foam cell pro stiff (what i ended up with - i don’t think the softer ones are avail in US) is for built rigs only. When i add some weight on the rear (hauling loads, trailer, etc...) it rides much better. Guess i just need to add a rear bumper.

Earlier this week my cousin came into town from Athens GA. Being a MS Delta native she was ready for some country road riding & good food so we loaded up the cruiser and headed to Natchez. I knew we would have some high water to deal with. Our first destination was Windsor ruins. Not getting there from the south.

So we made our way to Shaifer House.

Batesville to my house in a mere 6 hours. Some REALLY nice stuff on this route. I ran out of gravel for the most part just west of West but the balance of the route was gravel. Great day. Pics to follow

After work on Wednesday in Oxford I wanted to work on a track through some of my favorite spots in the north central part of the state. Also, I don’t have this route in my GAIA so I decided it’s too hit to do much else so I went for it

Here is a quick overview. Starts just west of Batesville. Ends at my house.

200+ miles. From west of I55 north it’s about 90% gravel.

Nice new sign. No one has shot it yet.

This is the Lamb Fish Bridge over the Little Tallahatchie. When I sadly saw it was closed I had to freelance back to the east. Glad I did. I found some great roads and instead of trying into my existing route at Greenwood I picked a whole new one.

This route dips in and out of the Delta and the Hill Country

The Kudzu fields are amazing on the edge of the Delta

Old churches and cemeteries are all over the edge of the Delta. Most don’t realize that prior to the civil war no one actually lived in the Delta

I took a side trip into a one-way into Malmaison Wildlife area. Awesome swamps.

From Holcomb I zig zagged to Carrollton. This is a destination worthy town. Some of the finest churches in the state

I found a great road that had “bridge out” roads all over but I pressed on. The wooden bridges are almost all gone. Lots of navigating around bridge out signs.

That’s it. I’ll go from Batesville north at some point

I combined a work trip today with a trip to Mosley Motors World HQ for a dyno test tomorrow on the Warthog’s cop motor.

After my appt in Grenada I struck out to explore Holly Springs National Forest between Grenada Lake and Enid..

I got to the end of the road going around the east end of Grenada Lake and the last bridge was out. I had to backtrack and make a huge loop back through Coffeville just to get to my starting place in the National Forest

The National Forest was beautiful and I had it to myself. I made a nice track SE to NW and came out just south of Enid Lake at Oakland.

From there I debated heading on to Memphis and getting in a cold shower. I changed my mind when my friend Bubba Battle told me he was at the farm in Tunica and wanted to see the Pig he stored in his barn for 10 years.

The AC was cranked and the dust was low. I made it to the shop where the Warthog languished for 10 long years to get a photo
