The highway route is one of my least favorite in the state. It sucks. How many miles and what was the time?

100 miles. About 4 hours because I had a bunch of Turn arounds at locked gates.

I finished up another cool segment today. I had already down DeSoto National Forest (south) and Ellisville to Canton. Today I connected the two (red)

Next time you have 10 hours to drive to the coast.......

@WharfRat did the entire MS Traverse trail I marked. All 600 miles. Natchez to Corinth.

Of course, he’s too much of a moron to take pics or type words so I have to congratulate him with a picture less post.

Ha... OK. Here you go @wngrog

This Can be done in 3 days but I broke it up into 5 days. It would make a spectacular “overlanding” weekend camping trip. The Holly Springs leg is a tangled maze of back roads.
As I worked my way past New Albany on the Tanglefoot leg it occurred to me that Union County has way to much money in there county road budget so they pave everything. Still a fun drive through the country side.
The Tombigbee section put me back on gravel. The land changed from cow pastures to dense forest.

It’s a good idea to fuel up and load the beverage cooler before hitting the Webster Co leg. There is nothing but fantastic gravel roads and country side here to Canton.
From Canton to Bentonia then follow the north side of the Big Black River to Bovina. I usually see a buck somewhere along this route.
As the track works it’s way south into Claiborne Co the landscape changed again. The ridge lines became steeper and the roads sink deeper with high earth banks and overhanging trees.
The Grand Gulf, Windsor, Rodney to Natchez legs are littered with historic sites. Don’t miss the historic churches at Rodney. I have made many trips to this area and it never gets old to me.
Fat Mamas Hot Tamales in Natchez is a great place to end the trip with a knock you naked margarita.

Yesterday me and Matt Wann left Jackson mid morning and ran the Ebenezer-Hillside track then looped back via the Silent Shad to Canton track. Wann having never done this track was pleasantly surprised. As you follow a high ridge that runs next to the delta and behind Hillside Wildlife Refuge you can see for miles across the MS Delta landscape.
Thanks to Matt for the pics.

That’s a pretty meandering loop there and could be shorted but you miss the overlook there on Yellow Dog Road.

So so so many roads. So glad to see you taking these routes.

Some of these routes have feed my backroad driving addiction for years, but I overlooked some of these roads. @wngrog has done a great job stringing these routes together.
Using the routes @wngrog has created in the Gaia gps app you can look at a area you want to explore, click on the route to see miles and drive time. Just follow the line.
Before I would have to stop at every other intersection and look at the map to keep cross the county I was driving through.
I never felt following the route in Gaia took away from the adventure it did however allow me to drive more miles and see more country than I otherwise would in a day. Just follow the line and enjoy.

See and Eat Mississippi? Tried that too...
