Those will work okay but you've got the woodworking skills just build out the box, seal, and insulate. I think you'll be happier with the results. Those are lighter weight foam really designed to keep your speakers dry in doors.

wife offered to recover the sun visors to match the overhead console material and color which is black. You should definitely notice an improvement in bass response. Did you caulk around the 1x1 material? Probably not 100% critical but if you're taking the time to make the box it would be good if it were fully sealed. Report back when you can crank it up!

Do the visors cover the speakers when flipped up?
I know this is an old post but worthy of additional compliments...."nice job" . I like everything about it. The matching sun visors were a great idea. Another project for me to add to me ever growing list.
