I've wanted a pig for a long time. For a while I've made do with a 60, but nothing is quite a cool as a 55. So I think I found one locally, and while looking it there was a weird box under the truck, next to the read drive shaft. The only think I can think of is it is some kind of secondary gas tank, or a box for smuggling drugs. I just thought I'd post some pice and see what you all think.

Best as I can tell the roof only has a light patina of surface rust. The only spot I saw rot was under the driver floor. There is a two inch hole, but it looks very repairable.

If I get it (the next few days should tell) then I'll take some closer pics of the box to see how it's plumbed. I did see a hose coming out the very front of the box--presumably to the carb. I'm just wondering, would the main tank drain to the aux tank? I didn't see a filler for the aux tank. But if the primary tank drains to aux, that would be very slow to fill up unless the connection was enlarged. I guess I'll fing out if/when I get it.

Lou, You still haven't hooked up that filler neck? PM me and I'll explain.

Geof,
Yes, that is the same tank that I had and I believe Lou has.

Is there a filler tube (2" or so) inside the left front wheel well? This small tube you say you saw is more than likely a vapor tube that would connect to the actual filler neck. There should also be a line coming out of the rear lower corner. That is the sender line. Mine had a switching valve bolted to the inside of the frame rail on the passenger side about mid-ship. this valve had two "ins", 1 for the main tank, 1 for the aux, and an "out to the carb. Simple switch on the dash to control

Starting to make sense, Lou?

On my first examination, I didn't see any secondary fillers, which is why I assumed one drained to the other. With any luck I should own it by the weekend and will be able to look more closely.

The truck hasn't been run since 2004, but presumably is did run with the tank in place...

maybe it's still full of something illegal, crack it open and fund the full build out!

If you're going south I'd loose the tank! The border guards will get suspicious. The guys in Nicaragua were convinced my long range tank was full of drugs  They went so far as to pull it out. I thought they were about to cut it open!!

This is at the Penas Blancas crossing from Costa Rica to Nicaragua on the Nicaraguan side.

Buy that Pig!

You can get seat recovered easily.

How is the headliner?

That looks to be a very complete Piggy! I love it!!!

Is the price reasonable?

Sort term I expect to just get a $30 bench seat cover off ebay.

Headliner is beyond gone, though the bows are there.

Price is open, and will be discussed soon. I think they will go pretty reasonable. It's been sitting since 2004.

It does seem to be pretty decent all things considered. Its missing some glass on some of the doors. Missing front heater core. If figure it will take about $500-$1000 to get it in the condition of my FJ60, but I can definitely deal with that since my brother wants to buy my 60.

Ok, first round of negotiations have concluded, and I'd love your input--we haven't yet got to a price we both agree on. I looked at some recently sold pigs, ingluding this one:

https://forum.ih8mud.com/fj55-classifieds-corner/342236-79-pig-project-sale-boise.html

So I started at $1200 because the running of the engine was an unknown to me. She wanted $2500, and claimed the engine runs great, it just needs a battery. I was willing to go to $1500 not knowing the condition of the engine, she was willing to drop the price to $2000. I told her $1500 was the best I could do, unless they could get the truck running and I could actually drive it away, in which case I could probably do $2000. She and her husband are going to get a battery an get it going over the next week.

I tell all this because I'm curious other take on this price. Am I being too intractable? I see these things as low as $700 running and as high as $10k+. Does all this seem reasonable for the condition? Aside from the photos posted, the interior is kind of trashed--headliner shredded, upholstrey pretty bad. The dash is all there, though rough. The only rot is under the driver floorboards.

What do you all think?
