Dan,

Got sick- better now and I drove to the city this afternoon and put one of these in the mail for your engine - says arrival is July 24.

It is a huge help that you had those. I checked with Vivid racing ( the company that I bought the bearings from) and the update that I had on their app was that the bearing were going to be pushed back until October. Now I am just waiting on the refund and when that comes in it will pay for half of the remaining machinist bill.

EPIC NEWS. I got my block back today! I now have the crank, block, cam, everything! Work is going to start soon

What is your timeline?

Soft deadline September 15th to go to my kids' student car show as a guest judge on the 20th. Hard deadline by Thanksgiving(ish), because the holidays get crazy. I am planning a relic run for Martin Luther King day weekend and it would suck to plan it and not be able to go on it. 😜

First work day in a long time. Last night put down primer and paint. Of course I had to go with blue.

My goal today was to get the crank and cam in today, I got the bearings that @OlYellr that sent to me and installed mains 1,2,4 installed and plastigaged. Thanks for the help from @OlYellr and @RLMS for giving me advice unfortunately I couldn't get the thrust bearing installed as it is too thick for the crank, so back to the machine shop it goes to find out what to do next.

I had same issue and the way forward for me was to have the machine shop shave .001 off the thrust vs hunt for bearings that would work on the thrust side.

I recall someone else on MUD mixed and matched Taiho and Clevite brands to make it work with this same issue.

I chalk it up to the “sort-of fit” aftermarket parts being produced some 35+ years post 2f engine.

I know that this is a stupid question: Are you using shims on the main bearing caps? Not even sure if this applies to a 2F.

The youngest got her cast off her arm yesterday, and it didn't make sense to work one day before a 3 day weekend. FIVE DAY WEEKEND. So that meant a work day for Uma. So today I got the crank in the thrust bearing corrected with .024". The problem was the bearing was .075 oversized and the thrust was also .075 over. I got some adhesive body sanding discs with beyond fine grit and hose clamped them together so that I could get them even. Got the cam backing plate in the cam timed the pistons in with the rings sorted out, the oil pan on, and the lifters installed. I am glad that I marked everything and sorted out as I was taking it apart.

As a proud blue collar worker I take pride in my holiday Labor Day. A holiday dedicated to the hard workers who help build this country. Having said that what do I do on "my" holiday? Work on my truck.

Today was about getting the head on and torqued down. And the rockers, pushrods installed.

I can still turn it over by hand and all of the valves do their dance and it stays in time.

The timing cover is on but I have to wait to tighten the last 4 bolts to get the right sealer for it. I am just about ready for this next weekend where 🤞 I can get the heart back in and one step closer to fire.

Yet another bonus work day. It seems counter productive but I swear this is the easiest way to do this. Getting ready to install the "new" motor again. And after fighting the transmission and transfer case the last time through I decided to perverbally drop the transmission to install the motor. Then when the motor is in go through the passenger side door taking the passenger seat and fuel tank out and install the transmission with a cherry picker.

I wanted to get work done today but my ADHD paralysis didn't. I was wanting to get the engine installed instead I got the last 4 bolts for the timing cover tightened down. I was waiting on the non setting sealer that came in today. I got the the harmonic balancer on and the lock washer that @RLMS hooked me up with on my podcast.

I don't have it torqued down as I want to have the flywheel on. And in order to get the flywheel in I need to get the bell housing on. So I got that cleaned up.

(No that isn't snow but rather soap suds.)
I was wanting to get the new pilot bearing in but in order to do that I had to get the old one out. I wanted to try the bread trick. But that didn't work and now my ⅜ inch deep well 10mm socket that I also stuffed full of bread is stuck in the old pilot bearing.

Once you get the 3/8 deep socket out (vise grips maybe?) go to Harbor Freight and get this kit for the pilot bearing. Should make it really easy and you can just return the kit after you use it if you don't wanna keep it

Not officially a work day for Uma but progress was made. I knew today was not an evening to work but took some time where I could. The pilot bearing outer race is out and the new pilot bearing is in. Thanks @OlYellr for that bearing.

Oh that red fluid dripping down is some assembly fluid that I have been putting on everything. Oh I also have the side cover and gasket on the other day but failed to mention it and get a picture of of it.
So with the pilot bearing in I could now put the bell housing on.

No pictures of today's progress but today I got the flywheel, clutch, motor mounts and the crank pulley finally torqued down to 130 ft/lbs. Tomorrow it is ready to go back in and the transmission as well.

Things are moving on today😁

Engine is in and off of the hoist. The transmission is going in.
