Yes, it is out of a 2005 or 2006 Heep Liberty. The motor is made by VM Motori in Italy. Stock the CRD has the same output that the VW had hopped up. 170 hp 300 ft torque. On the forums people are afraid of them because we only had them here in the states for a couple years. They have had them over seas for 40 years. And with modern technology its pretty easy to send a file over seas and have the computer tuned and download it.

It is a pretty sweet little motor. Replaceable sleeves. Basically a stand alone engine and trans computer. We have had one as a daily for years. Minimal maintenance after you take off all the extras bolted to the block...

Got intercooler piping done yesterday and drove it for the first time with the new power plant.

First drive!!

Lots to do yet. But so far extremely impressed with the difference.

Unbelievably cooler. EGT's run 350-450F cooler all the time. Which in turn keeps everything else cooler. Lots of power, a much deeper sound than the VW, the Auto is so much smoother on the trail, I borrowed 37's off that 80in the pic the other day to try them out(they measured 35.5 on the vehicle) and it handled them easily, so I will be going up a size when these wear out. I have Toyo MT they claim are 34.1(measure 33 on the vehicle). Very happy I spent the time and money on the swap this winter. I still have some work to do, need to make a better air box, hook up the ac, and wrap all the wires under the hood... I left them open incase I needed to make any changes, but it seems the wiring should be good to go.

The rear suspension hasn't gotten dialed in where I am happy with it, it's rough on the trail... So I am gathering parts to 4 link the rear using fj80 coils(I think..)

So with the boost turned up a bit-nothing extreme-what numbers would it make? Do they have any manual trannys that bolt to that motor? What fuel mileage are you seeing?

I will look at boost numbers when I am out. I had already... but I don't remember what they were..

I have another computer and SKIM(security module) that I am gonna have a guy in Italy tune. I want to see the difference between Malone and his..

I am still working on getting a few items from the computer. Tach, CEL, Glow, and I need to finish the OD button and the cruise buttons.

Excellent idea! Will follow with interest. And that is one seriously long serpentine belt for a 4 cyl motor.

@White Stripe Fuel mileage on the first tank was 23 mpg. The tank on the afternoon of wheeling was 20 mpg.

My son and I removed the rear suspension this weekend, getting it ready for the Aus full float housing, Eaton Elocker, and barnes4wd parts for a 4 link setup with JK rear coils. To say he had a blast would be an understatement!!!

Making progress on the new rear axle and suspension. Got the truss modified and tacked on. And got the lower links tacked on.

So far, it looks like it will fit perfectly.
