I agree with Eric... whats with all you guys always heading to Anza or Ocotillo? Don't you know there's more than one desert area in SOCAL? Shoot for that matter there's places with actual trees! Lets make it somewhere else for once. Besides this is a SOCAL80's section , not the SAN DIEGO 80's.. there's a section for that :D Last time i checked SOCAL is more than just 50 miles from the border.

There i said it.

RANT/OFF

That's why I started us off out of the Valley and at least Upper Coyote for a starting point on Ideas.

There's a pretty fun loop in SD county - can't remember the name of the trail, but it's south of hwy8, just a little east of Pine Valley. I think it's the Corral Cyn OHV area. The trail is a loop and you can camp anywhere on the trail halfway through to make it a two day. Only problem is no fires if you want to dry camp. You can also camp in the campgrounds.

In Big Bear, there's a trail from Holcomb Valley via Burns/Rattlesnake Cyn down to Pioneer Town in Yucca Valley that's pretty cool and you can finish with lunch or dinner at the saloon in Pioneer Town.

Also, Last Chance Cyn / Burro Schmidt area would be cool.

But overall, (in my opinion) nothing beats S. Coyote Cyn with camping up in the back of one of those valleys with a creek and oasis.

Last time I went out there I couldnt find the route to do the loop like I had done before the fires and when they shut it down. I ended up doing Bronco Peak only. It seemed like right where you turn off for Bronco was the end of the line as far as the big loop trail?

Can anyone comment on this I would like to do that loop again too? Is the original full loop open? This is the one they used to do at TTORA Corral Canyon run...:hhmm:

last time I went i was able to go counter clockwise and get to the fire lookout tower but I am not sure about going all the way around since the fires and closure????

I did that loop about a year ago. Hung out at the lookout tower with the caretaker for a bit. The scenery is really cool. Did it burn there within the last year?

how about Pink's Hotdogs?

then a rally up the 5, turn left at Gorman and drive all the way to Pozo Saloon for a cocktail, then down the 101 to Nipomo for a steak at Jocko's.

on dirt roads, of course.

if I go to Sandy Eggo, I'm stopping at Stone Brewing for a while...jus sayin.

If you guys choose Joshua Tree or Anza B, good chance that I can make either one. Less likely on the farther drives.

Upper Coyote Canyon is also a nice destination.

Forgot to mention Toro Pk. Mountain (is that the correct name) off Hwy 74 above Palm Springs, has a dirt road though not technical that drives you pretty much all the way to the top of the mountain to a look out point where you can see some great vistas. There is still snow at the higher elevation parts and with that most likely plenty of slippery slushy mud to make it interesting. I remember hearing that there are plenty of spots to set up primitive camping.

I like the direction this is going, some camping, relatively close to me...

Hope fate smiles on me on the chosen timing!

Dan.

My life is a cr@p shoot...So whatever date is picked i will do my best to make it! That said, if the trip gets pushed out and things start heating up in Anza perhaps we can begin looking at the Big Bear and or Crab Flats/Deep Creek areas. I have a small place in the area and would be happy to host a BBQ

Man you guys suck!

April 10-11 Catalina
April 24-25 Packing for Cruise Moab (leave the 26th)
May 1-2 Cruise Moab:D
May 8-9 Mother's Day (I'll be in Picacho:))
May 22-23 I have to work Sat:mad:

That's why I said sometime in June:rolleyes:

Just not June 12-13 - I have to work both days:eek:

But I'll try to make it to something. . . . . . . .

, I goofed and voted for the weekend of May 8 & 9 not realizing that was Mother's day weekend. I need to rescind that vote. I will try and make it no matter which date is picked. Let's get a vote going for the location as well.

I'm going to try to make whatever date & location is decided. It will just depend on my situation when the time comes. I've missed out on a lot runs the last couple of years. :bang:

Ok, im taking the ball.

The date is May 8th and 9th. That's what the most people voted on.

Next is location... give me some suggestions and i'll make a poll beginning of next week.
Remember, keep the places somewhat close so most can attend..and choose destinations
that have plenty of room for camping. Lastly try and remember, there are stockers that
would like to attend.. please pick a place with them in mind.

Gorman for mild play and practice, Miller for some trails, Dutchman for camping?

Well, since the 9th is Mother's day, I wont be able to camp. But I would like to make it on Saturday if it's not too far. I would be interested in the Big Bear area since I have never wheeled there.
