Is Silverado Canyon to Main Divide open ? If so it is central to most of us and offers 'ok' camping over at Blue Jay with plenty of sites. Just a thought.....

So.....Any other ideas? I am really hoping i can make this one.

I'm not scheduled to work those dates 5/8 -9.
But it would be more appealing to go to a place where there are real trees though.

agreed on the trees

but who are you and what did you do with Bluto...?

Im gonna say Gorman , Hungry Valley OHV too. Like Eric said.. it has trees, trails, 4x4 course, picnic tables, shaded canopies etc. People can also run out to the highway (10mins) for food/beverages and supplies. Also camping at Dutchman camp would be a nice big area too.

Any other places?

Gorman OHV is a great place to do a lot of things, camping, different levels of wheeling, rock crawling.

People could run Miller if its open too.

We should try to find a secluded spot because it gets pretty busy down there during the weekends.

we did go on a very nice trail meandering down some hills among big green trees not too far from Frazier Park a couple of years ago. Forgot the name, but it's out on MUD someplace. Several trails in the Miller area too. Good for all skill and hardware levels. BC109 not too far.

And believe it or not, the little practice areas at Hungry Valley are just the ticket for starting out.

I would not camp at HV ideally. Kinda flat, barren and crowded. But up the mountain is nice. It's an hour or 2 drive though. There is a nicer campground next to BC109 with trees.

Works for me. If i can swing it, i will be there!

I agree, camping at HV might be kinda annoying if we need some peace and quiet.

We have camped out at spot on the north side of the highway, I forget the campsites name. Theres a trail that leads straight into the woods, and its an awesome campsite. Any stock 80 can handle the trail, but 4 low is needed for sure.

Ill try to do some research today.

e9999,

The trail leading to that campsite is 9N19. I vaguely remember running water, table, and pit?

The trail was tight/rocky under a canopy of trees. But it was fun.
It's almost like one of those Eastern type trails - photowise.

ah, so you are the same Bluto then... :) I liked that trail, it was beautiful with the trees.

I didn't mean the camp at the end of the trail we went together on, if that's what you meant. There wasn't much there.
I meant the campground on a dirt road that parallels Arroyo Seco/BC109 near the intersection of 33 and Lockwood Valley Rd. Maybe 20 sites or so but never seen it very crowded. It's another 1/2 hr or so from Frazier Park I think though.

 I stand corrected.

Are you guys talking about the South part of Los Padres National Forest? I was there a few weeks ago and a lot of the trails were closed for snow. Might be opened by the M&G but someone should call ahead.

 I stand corrected.

actually come to think of it, wasn't there also a spot some distance from the very end of the trail we did that had a bit of a wider space and maybe 2 or 3 camping spots? There was somebody there IIANM.
But probably not big enough for the huge M&G crowds...

The one advantage of camping at HV proper is of course you're right there, it's so easy to dash out for a quick 1 hr run between 2 main courses... :) Whereas if you're at Dutchman you're there for the duration since it's out of the way. Although the beauty of Dutchman is that it's at the end of Miller so you'd have a long day doing Miller and end up at your campground where cold :beer:s await...

I'd be nice to identify some steep loose hills at HV where we could go play "claw up the hill". Safe if possible... Remember the brand new FJC (Scott was it?) that rolled there a couple of years ago?

for those of you learning about your rigs, there is/was the interesting side camber little run in the practice area. IIRC I figured out once there that the rig would NOT roll at close to 30deg. That was good news. It does cause puckered wrinkles in your seat leather, though...:D

I wont be able to make this one :frown:
