I am wondering will the later year model manual gear box swap in to place on the early 71?

Later year model

Early style 71

no idea, but was surprised when I saw the steering box and not a transmission at first.

No idea about the swap. In fact it is called a steering gear and not a steering box

It looks like something changed in April of '74:

Although the Pitman arm fits all years...

And the u-joints in the steering column fit 55/60/62.

So I guess the question is - did they change the bolt pattern?

I think your best strategy at this point is FAFO!
