Manifold Heat Control Valve??

I have a manifold gasket related question most mud member's can probably answer. Does the "wide side" of the metal exhaust port seal face the head.

I am thinking I will just use 1 of Mark's Off Road gaskets. And Copper Coat on just the exhaust ports.

Yes. That looks like the one good one I have. 1971ish.
