JP's accessories

JP,

Since I already have the springs/lift, sliders and hopefully new wheels/tires (89's ??) I would most definately be interested in the bumpers, winch and roof rack. Lets talk....soon.

Just ordered sliders from SROR

Jim is a really nice guy in Colorado, living the dream . . . The UC Bender was his. Here is what I bought:

My 40 sliders are from Jim... they are very nice. Won't have to worry about banging on them. Stout is an understatement.

nice david way to dive right in!!! so will we see you at the PPR??

Sorry to hi-jack again Daivd last time I promise..........

I think Marshall started a nasty rumor here; while I am getting ready to sell my FJ62 here in the near future I am not parting it out by any means...... it would be about worthless with out all the upgrades on it. Sorry for the confusion on that guys

and Marshall.........:flipoff2:

JP - I think post 12 https://forum.ih8mud.com/showpost.php?p=2641963&postcount=12 is whats confusing people...it got me!

Are you sure you want to make such a clean rig into your trail truck?? If so protection first then go for lift and the other items.

Depending on $ I would go:

Sliders
front bumper
rear bumper
1/4 protection somehwere depending on if you include it in your rear bumper or not.

Then go for lift, tires, locker(s) and gears.

How much moddingare you going to be doing? How hard do you plan to wheel it? I think that depends on which order to go in. As far as brands I always have my favorites, but for me it usually ends up with what I can get a sweet deal on. Now with UC having a tubing bender that makes up my mind for alot of my protection needs. See my post under the bender thread about all I have planned with that! :)

JP:

Dont sell the 62, you have given me some motivation off and on. Where is it by the way??? Then again if you get rid of it, I woudl be the largest 62 in the club. :bounce:

Wheeling . . .

Here is how I plan to wheel it:

1. Cullowhee, but not the sidetrails

2. Tellico, just the easy stuff (like 1).

3. OBX fishing.

4. Snow in Asheville (if we ever get any again).

5. Scaring the soccer moms at the school dropoff.

I have taken your advice and ordered the sliders first. Your right, it is pretty straight, but I don't want to sit on the sidelines forever.

Do I have to do the new springs before the front or rear bumper? I really like SROR's rear bumper with the J-Can holder and the tire to the left. Also like to support the little guy.

That rear bumper is going to add a good bit of junk in your trunk. Are your rear leafs original or did you replace those recently also? You don't want to be driving around with extra saggy britches...

Install Dakar heavy springs and you'll be good!

if you upgrade bumpers........ you will need to up grade the springs; while Dakar heaveys would be ideal a cheaper way would be to install a heavy load add-a-leaf the the spring packs........... atleast that is how us poor college kids do it :D

Okay, so its springs next . . .

I am actually making a list, and I like the Dakar option eventhough (get it?) it costs more. Where to buy and install?

JP, while I too did the poor-college-guy thing (including scavaging junk yards for Chrysler parts, repoing cars for extra cash, and buying "bones" at a chicken biscuit place for 10 cents a piece), I have graduated: this means I can now do the poor-middle-aged guy thing, which is going into debt deeper than I thought possible in college. In the future, I look forward to doing the poor-old-guy thing, which is mooching off my children, eating dinner at 4 pm, and complaining about the government.

I second using Kurt, he was great when I rebuilt both my axles last year, including hte gear install parts, and misc items.

If you are doing things that eay I would get a lift b/f front or rear bumpers. Sliders should have the big portion of damage possibilities covered.

David - It has been mentioned but consider giving Lance or Cam a call at Iron Pig Off Road in Fredericksburg, VA. Stand up guys who are all about quality. Plus, they like to talk about your build plans and have good, consultative feedback based on a plethora of Cruiser wrenching / building experience.

Always good to support local (east coast) folks IMO, although it seems like I've supported them all at one time or another...

With a large order of parts, shipping is cheaper from VA and you even have the option of picking it up yourself, meeting them and checking out their operation.

and just to throw one more out there......Urban Land Cruisers in Atlanta sells Dakar stuff and does installs; althought I don't know how their pirces compare to others.

All good options!

Would like to simply drive, leave the vehicle at 8 am and come back at 5 and drive home. Either place sounds good!

You guys have inspired me! The sliders are on order with SROR, and I repacked the front bearing tonight (by pumping in moly). Excitement returns to Land Cruisers! Sort of like gambling - - if you ain't putting money down a slot with little or no hope of return, then your not in the game.
