You must be kidding right? 154k and your on your 2nd head gasket?what did you do drain the coolant and drive?LOL.:D

Im actually at 169k miles. but I got it replaced exactly a year ago.

It actually wasn't the headgasket. I did some minor testing on it two days ago. Did the dye test and it came back perfect. so its not the headgasket. EVERYTHING has been replaced except the bottom end and its burning oil. So im assuming its probably rings/seals because it runs perfectly fine, just smokes like i'm seafoaming the damn thing.

So i did some thinking.

Would it be foolish of me to buy a 90-95 22re 4Runner, Swap all my modifications onto it, fix my current 4Runner and then sell it to rekindle some of my cash?

Im to the point where I would take the 40 horsepower loss for some reliability and fuel economy. Not to mention, I could take a stock 4Runner for B**** to bull in less than 24 hours.

Thoughts?

Even stock in factory fresh condition, a 22RE in those trucks was very underpowered. Once you put a bunch of armor on it, it will really be a dog on the road. You'll be kicking yourself the first time you go thru Donner Pass on the way to Tahoe.

Well. I got it all squared away.

It so happens that someone tried to sabotage the 4runner... I had it towed to my mechanic and he found out that it had 11.5 quarts of oil inside of it. It wasn't driven like this, nor did it cause any damage. so everything is golden.

I've also listed the 4Runner up for sale. A lot of the things in my life are changing. and I figured its a good time for me to change vehicles as well, start new with a new canvas.

If anyone's looking for a turn key ultimate camping rig that needs absolutely nothing. This is definitely it.

1992 Toyota 4Runner. Locked, Geared & More!

 I should copy that ad, my boss thought I was "stupid and full of it" when I told him I had an offer for $9k. The asking price is appropriate, even given what unbuilt one's go for these days.

Just keep it. Same speech John gave to me. Now explain how in the heck someone tried to sabotage it and how 11qts ended up in there without someone checking the dipstick?

*Seriously, am I gonna end up the only one out here w/ a 2nd-Gen Runner now? Fix it, keep it, find a 3.4 and swap it. (I can't blame you though, even I've considered a 100 Series or Sequoia for a bit.)

Yeah. My life is a bit of a roller coaster right now. Yesterday seemed like a great idea to sell it. today, I want nothing more than to just take a drive in it to blow off some steam. I'll leave it on there and see what happens.

I have a lift, tires and rims to put on it. Maybe that'll spark my love for it again. Who knows.

Here's pictures of my lights and switch in action.

Looks like I did a good job on the lights

Sell it, and I'll see you in the 80 series section FTW

No way am I selling the car. lol I love that Mustang already and it looks like s*** :D

We'll see how I feel about the truck once i get it back from the shop. Maybe I just need a break from it, Maybe Its time to sell it, Maybe I can squeeze a few more years out of it before I do a 3.4 swap. who knows. But Its with out a doubt on my s*** list currently and I'd like nothing more right now than to start with a new canvas ( 3rd gen 4Runner, 98+ tacoma or 93+ Landcruiser ) and atleast spend some of the money on my mustang to get it in a streetable condition. ( fix the shock towers ).

Actually, One of my good friend's dad is selling his FJ40. ( 66, inline 6, hard top, & doors, soft top & doors, bikini top, power disc brakes, aluminum rear tub, amazing shape ) and he's only asking 5 grand. Im a bit ehhh about the interior of those things, but nothing you cant do in a smog exempt vehicle :P

He did kick the woman to the curb. She was cramping his style.

*FWIW, he can leave the mini crowd, looks like we have another 60 series convert, sad as it is: https://forum.ih8mud.com/79-95-toyota-truck-tech/567094-junk-yard-find-2.html#post7739102

Me, I only have one kid, I'd stupidly be trying to figure out how to keep the 60 and build the Cruiser up. Then again, vipergrhd did just that, and I used Booberry's writeoff to find WImpy, so what do I know? At least they're Toyota's though.

Like I said, fix up the Mustang, sell it, keep the Runner, and buy your 80 Series. Trust me here, I've gone through my share of hot-rods, they come and go, the Toyota's are less so.

FWIW,Mustangs are useless off-road and tends to loose traction on slippery road with a heavy foot, rarely survives in an accident etc.my suggestion is keep the rig and sell the Hot rod.when i sold my 4runner i didn't realize that the stupid thing would be missed after i sold it to my friends son (16),everytime i get a chance to drive it or working on it i almost don't want to let it go the kid cleaned it up and started fixing it up now i almost want to bang my head :bang:.

I'm not trying to be a Dick and convince you to keep the rig your old enough to make that decision, all i'm saying is when it's gone it's gone.just ask your self after all the money, elbow grease, sweat involved in this project are you really willing to let someone else enjoy all your hard work? It's your money, your rig, your decision.maybe save up for a 3.4l swap?

Honestly. Im READY to sell it. its not that i wont miss it. Im just tired of it and ready for something new / different. I know the Mustang isn't practical, but I bought it because I've wanted one for years now. And now that i've got it, and its rust free with a rebuilt motor. With a paint job, suspension, wheels and tires. it would be golden. With other things such as a T-5 swap, 4.10s and LSD in the rear it would be a blast to drive. Being 22 years old and never owning a "go-fast" car. Its a bit of an obsession with the mustang right now. I wont be leaving the offroad game when the 4Runner sells. I'll most likely be picking up an OBD2 LX450 or FZJ80. But I honestly love 3rd gen 4Runners as well. Not to mention there was a sweet 2000 4Runner on Craigslist with 98k miles, sport edition / highlander edition with a factory TRD supercharger, 5 speed and e-locker for cheap. I would've definitely rocked that if the 4Runner sold.

But anywho. Im not going to sell the 4Runner and dump the money into the mustang. that would be extremely foolish of me. Like i said, just ready for something different. whether it be a landcruiser or another 4runner, i dont really care. just looking for a clean canvas to start over.
