Did you get what you were asking for?anybody on mud or future mud member?just a reminder don't spend it all in one stripper you should spread it out amongst friend.just kidding.spend wisely my child hope you find your next project.:D

John:clap:

Yep, got exactly what i was asking. Which is why my feelings aren't hurt. heh. :D

I found a sweet 85 toyota 4x4 ext cab. but its got the carb motor. ( its rebuilt with 20k on it ) but I dont really want to have to deal with swapping it to an EFI or 3rz later on. its a clean little pick up though. dont think i wanna even deal with a carbureted 22r.

Here's a link to that 85.

That's been my mindset since day 1 of buying a Toyota in the first place. thats why i bought a 4Runner... I want to build something I can have no problem keeping forever. Which is why im so partial to trucks. I'd rock the hell out of a 4 door tacoma 2001-2004 flavor, but they're overpriced in my opinion.

Thats a sick rig, but honestly? ridiculously expensive. there's no way I could wheel a 14k truck, that'd just be dumb of me.

I'd much rather pick up a non-locker rig for cheap. and throw ARBs in it. Route the system my own way, on-board air at the same time, route it to the factory switch. I'd consider that a win win for me.

So as of right now, Im looking for a 93-97 FZJ80 with or without lockers. tan, silver, or white are the winning colors for me. I messaged a dude about a 96 black landcruiser today that had 155k miles and was asking $4800. but it sold already :( So the search continues!

May have found a new rig.

1994 Toyota Landcruiser
100% stock, no mods
247k miles
Factory front and rear lockers
Red

everything is in good working condition so he says, So im gonna go check it out tomorrow and see what the scoop is. Do the whole run down. i'll keep everyone updated.

Looking at this right now:

Hayes Autos – Roseville, CA

I like it, and it seems priced right with 128k original miles, a 5 speed and E-locker. but its a little above what i want to spend... Certainly like the white/black fender flare look too...

Looks like a winner. Sad to see you sold your 2nd Gen, it has been inspiration for what I'd like to do to mine.

Yeah... I hear that a lot, but honestly. its been a royal pain in the ass the last two years I owned it. I'll never own a 3vz personally.

Make an offer

Tell the sales manager 5k out the door, make sure to check the car under for signs of rust and recent body work, check fenders and quarter panels for s***ty repairs and test drive it like you stole it.:D

I doubt i can get it for 5k. strictly because dealer fees, and all kinds of other s***. I know used car dealers get their cars from auctions, and mark up the price ridiculously high. but yeah.

Maybe you show him a wad of cash on hand then he just might change his mind.just keep in mind sales don't like keeping cars for too long sometimes they have just take it from behind to make a sale.always come towards the end of the month miracles happen,LOL.

update?

So what did you get bud?another 4runner or landcruiser?i just stumble upon a new project since my wife made me sell my 91 4runner.i will post pic when i get it in the garage.:D

I agree totally that cash talks. They understand Mr. Franklin. Also be ready to walk, as soon as, you start to get up they change their tune, and don't be afraid to offer what you are willing to pay.

I once looked at a 2000 v6 5spd 4runner on a dealer lot, test drove it and upon inspection found it had been in a front end collision, I offered about a third of what they were asking then smiled and walked away.

Hate to see the runner go but I am curious to see what replaces it.

I haven't gotten anything yet. I've been working on the mustang a lot lately. im REALLY feeling a 3rd gen 4Runner. the 3.4 is a nice powerhouse for the size of the car, aftermarket selections are inexpensive and all over the place. So we'll see what I can find. I just haven't been hardcore looking lately.

So I went to Hayes auto sales to check out that 97 white 4Runner with the 5 speed, elocker and 3.4 I get there and in seconds I LOVE the truck. The door was open so I helped myself. it was super clean on the inside and only had 120k miles! They were asking 7k. I quickly checked everything out on the inside and everything was clean.

But then...

I jumped out, and gave it a full scan. I started at the front bumper. I noticed some rust/pitting on the front bumper. And instantly told myself, I REALLY dont want to look under the truck. I did. It had surface rust all over the running boards and on the frame. Not that big of a deal, but it was kind of a downer. It had a new clutch, cat, and catback, ( probably stolen ) and new shocks/coils.

One of the Vultures came over to me ( one of the employee's ) and was like Hey are you interested in that car. and I told him it depends.... yada yada. and he simply told me its a TMU car. And I was like wtf is that? some sort of special deal going on and then he told me "total mileage unknown" and instantly my stomach sank... I carfaxed it via my phone. its gone from 240k down to 140k, up to 200k and back down to 120k since 97 and was totally disappointed. I was completely uninterested at this point with the surface rust issues and what not. I was nice about it and continued to talk to him. and I was like so with a vehicle that could possibly have 400k miles. How do you handle deals like this? and He basically told me CASH ONLY. and I was like hmm... how much would you go down and he said the lowest I could go down is 300 bucks, which is the tax and reg fees. im like so wait... you want $7,000 for a truck that has surface rust, no known actual mileage or maintenance? and he's like Yep! we usually buy cars that look and run good. I was completely dumbfounded at this point. I didn't know dealers could completely screw people. Not to mention there was a green 2000 4Runner sitting next to it for $1000 more with actual mileage, and a california owned car so no rust...

I walked away at this point. Poor 4Runner :/ thats a beautiful car and the poor thing is probably going to sit on that lot for a long time. too bad its a 5 speed, e locked, v6.

The search continues.

Vultures

I totally agree with you man, this people are just out there to make money but in a sense it is a tough way to earn a living you learn to lie and mislead at times.small used car lots are really bad when it comes to car buying they get the left overs of the big dealers and large used car lots.most of this car were a reject from another dealer due to a lot of issues.it's always a buyer beware if you check out in one of this use car lots you got to have a sharp eye and big nose to smell chit lurking under the vehicle.just my 2 cents.:)

I hope the mods don't mind me sharing this here,i just purchased a 99 3rd gen. this sunday from a guy in Napa.the body and interior are in very good shape and seem very well kept by the original owner.it has some issues like the engine is missing due to a coolant leak in one of the cylinder i also spot some oil leak and body scratches.:D here is a few pics when we check it out i will be towing it home this weekend.

1985 Toyota Truck 4x4

Texting the owner about this right now. I'd much rather have an 85 4Runner 22re. but those are bread nowadays. To me, the Ext Cab models of the 84-88 are basically just more room for taller people. not really an extended cab... but we'll see how it goes.

Don't text,drive!

If i were you bring a friend and drive over there and cash on hand, then give a lower offer than what he is asking for after you look it over find things that you can bargain with.see how much stuff you could find to point it out to him and see if he is willing to lower the price.i did spot that rig while i was browsing for a 4runner but then my wife would never let me have that.good luck man.
