Great trip man, this is almost the reverse of when I few down to buy my LC from @TnTnola and drove back. Your hitting all the great spots!

I saw from a few other threads that you were looking at UFI for a turbo but after working with G Turbo I would highly recommend you check them out. They have worked closely with ADS and their injection pumps and injectors as well as PDI. Everyone has their own area of specialization and expertise. I haven't dyno'd yet but I would be surprised if I wasn't 300 hp or close to it at 29 psi.
I’ve got a 95 triple locked if you want to make another trip to Nola.

Yeah ive been on the fence with both! We'll see. When I get my transmission to quiet down, and some other smaller items out of the way I plan to go bigger injectors and turbo.

Hit some hot springs in Pagosa Springs, these are free right on the side of the San Juan River. Perfect for a cold plunge or two after being boiled.

Continued southwest, into the Navajo Nation, found camp, got food going.

this is what these things were built for man, and you can tell it.

FTE is just going like its meant too. Getting between 22-25 mpg.

Now to drink this beer.

Navajo Nation/Monument Valley, met a buddie in a troopy, cant remember his name, but he was from Europe, with a 1999 hzj73? He loved the Manual FTE.

To the Grand Canyon, where im now half drunk, eating tacos, drinking modelos, and enjoying the night.

if you havent yet, FTE swap your cruiser, then drive the s*** out of it. I dont know if its possible to top it. 🤣

Sadly tomorrow I head south, then east at some point, maybe west more? I dont know.

Be safe fellas.

Also, just for the sake of being transparent. My h152f, is annoying the ever living **** out of me with roll over noise. So much so, im contemplating throwing in a different clutch assembly to see if it helps.

If you've never heard of rollover, dont worry because I hadn't either. Now I know manual transmissions arent as "refined" and can be a little clunky or noisy. I mean that's half the fun right? You get to "drive" you're vehicle.

So whats rollover noise? If you havent googled it during my rant, it's vibrations or harmonics that travel through engine, into the manual transmission, and cause the gears along the main shaft, to chatter against gears on the counter shaft.

Whats this mean for me? It means when the transmission is in neutral, clutch pedal up, you get this weird noise, it doesn't sound like it's grenade going off in the case, but it isnt silent either. I can notice it when im outside walking up to the lexus, I can notice it in the cab, its worse while cold, gets better hot.

You can also hear it while in low rpm, low gear situations, think anytime you lug an engine a bit in 1st/2nd/3rd. Its obvious, and it's slowly driving me insane. Especially offroad.

Heres my thread with some videos and images about roll over noise.

Thread 'New H152f, identify the noise' New H152f, identify the noise - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/new-h152f-identify-the-noise.1371414/

Now im going to be honest here. If I knew I'd be dealing with this. If someone wouldve warned me, I would stuck with the automatic transmission...

I think its mostly because ive shelled out a lot of coin for a brand new transmission, and it shifts well, it runs nice. But ******* I expect it to be pretty damn quiet.

I have to once again shout out @Cruisers and Co . Johnathan has helped me over the past few days to try and figure out a solution. As busy as they are over there. It means a lot when they are trying to help with a problem they didnt cause.

Anyway drunken, loud transmission rant over.

Do they make a dual mass flywheel for it? I've dealt with that alot on Mercedes trans swaps.

Ill have to look, im going to try a different gear oil when I get to Georgia.
yea I've reduced the noise in other transmissions that call for a very light weight oil and i put 75w-90 GL4 in worked good but I don't know if there is a 140 GL4 out there or not. if it's quieter when cold that might be just what you need.

And we're BACK, I drove a total of 1700 miles and didnt feel like driving I40 East. So I drove back home to denver and jumped on a flight to Georgia, stayed there a few weeks to visit the family.

It was a fun break in trip. I ended up hitting the road from the grand canyone, drove East, hit Albuquerque then headed to Denver. 75ish the whole way. 24 mpg average it was a long day of driving, but the FTE ate it up.

Now im back into maintenance mode, when I was rebuilding the knuckle for moab, I noted the rubber sheathing was falling off the brake lines, so I ordered replacements during black friday sales. I also ordered extended brake lines from the frame to axle.

Ive got a few more things to do, rear heater needs plumbed back up, oil change is coming up pretty soon as well.

I bought this absolute monster of a transmission jack, "just in case" i have to pull the manual trans. This should be capable of holding the trans with the transfercase attached.

I have a sneaking suspension I might have screwed up the pilot bearing install, seating it too far into the crank? I dont know. Either way if thicker gear oil doesnt solve the rollover noise. Im going to pull it to investigate whats going on.

I just bought the same jack so I can pull Transmission and T-Case for a T-case rebuild/re-gear and to change the rear main seal.

FWIW, I’m now convinced it’s easier to yank the engine/trans/t-case vs fighting for your life to access the bolts at the top wide of the bell housing.

My knuckles have gotten enough abuse

Hahaha, I usually suggest that as well! Im hoping with the manual ill have more room, we'll see. 😅

Up and running, exploring northern Colorado. I fixed the transmission noise by turning up the stereo volume. Cruiser and Co, looked it as well, couldnt really find a culprit without diving into the trans. So we'll just drive it.

I also had my first recovery today. A guy and his girlfriend, in a Hyundai, just slid off the highway into some snow, hard to tell from the picture buy the front right tire was probably buried in the snow by a foot or so, right rear wasnt as bad so I gently pulled them out and back onto the road. Low range, first gear, and the FTE didnt even have to try lol.

Can't wait for summer. Too many locked gates this time of year!

If you do end up making that trip you had outlined to GA and pass through Louisiana on I-20 I'm in Bossier and would love to check this thing out. I'd be happy to let you camp in the yard or crash on the sofa, and take a shower. And throw something on the BBQ for the evening.

Sucks about the noise in the transmission though. I don't think I've ever experienced something as loud as what you are saying. But then I've never driven a manual diesel for extended periods of time. Except for one old 6BT cummins truck for a 12 hour round trip to Austin. It had so many other noises it would have been hard to tell though. 😅

No new updates really, reached out to our dobinsons vendor @crikeymike, going to replace the worn out ironman springs and try and get her more leveled out.

I also finally got a dedicated daily driver, probably the best copart auction buy one could ask for lol.

1,100 bucks for this 2002 SR5 4wd Sequoia. Looks like it was speared in the driver door. Runs great, passed emissions, getting the title transferred from salvage to rebuilt the 25th. Everything works, and I mean everything.

Its got 229k miles, timing belt/water pump was changed at 207k, and fresh oil change at 227k.

Someone really took care of this car.
