All that and it was only a balmy 45.1C here today.... 113F!

Jeeez you must be an old bugger from the look of that trike Dan :D

Good to hear from you again and catch up on your progress.

Much more respectable temperatures over here BTW ... just 20 or 21 today probably..

Not that old Tom - that tricycle had been passed down through the ages!

Started Lucy up last night, though my excitement was quickly foreshadowed with the fact that the Diesel engine running in the shed awoke our baby. ;(

Just stopped for the long weekend in the Grampians. Realistically this is the first time that I've taken her for a long run.

Economy wise 10.2L/100Km equates to 23MPG....

Pretty happy with those numbers, considering I've still got some work planned.

Walked away with a small scratch, thankfully it's a RHD!

Yipes!!!

Do you have a roll bar inside Dan?

I don't have one in mine, and I'm determined NEVER to roll it ..... but then perhaps you had the same determination.... (These things can catch you unawares.)

I know from experience how hard it is to get all body panels lining up properly again after a rollover (and after countless hours of work obtaining and fitting replacement panels) having rolled my old series 2A Landrover years ago. So my heart goes out to you..

But you're right in that the main thing is that no-one was hurt..

Tom,

Thanks, there is no roll bar which makes the damage so more unbelievable.

Having shown the wife the photos, she's politely informed me that our girls are not going back in Lucy.

So I'm determined that I'll put a "family" cage in it when I'm putting it back together.

Looks like now is the opportunity to do the panel/paint work.... A few years ahead of schedule!

Glad you're OK and only walked away with a small scratch. A roll bar is a must with these vehicles.

Perhaps this incident was just your cruiser trying desperately to bring its cancer to your attention so it can get some treatment Dan? :D

Hi Dancar
Sad to see the photos of the LX
I have been talking to a guy in Victoria that is selling a good roof side panels and rear doors to suit an LX.
He wants $800.00 for the lot.
I was going to buy for my self and keep as spares but the transport to Queensland was going to cost me more than the parts.
If you are interested email me on private chat and I will pass on the contact.
Cheers

thanks all.

I'm really grateful that I was able to get out unscathed.

I also have had a couple of weeks to look at the 55, and I've realised that it doesn't really need that much work to get out on the road. So I'll be concentrating efforts on that in the coming weeks so I can get it registered and drive her around. Then I'll have twice the room to start removing the body from the chassis and start on the repairs.

will keep the thread updated.

Dan

Thanks Bambi, I'll take you up on that offer.

Ok, so I've stepped back from the LX for a little while now so that I can take it all in.

I've got some doors coming my way, so I should be able to make one good pair. Still looking for the side panels, but I read through Dr Slug's build, and an option is there to use side panels with the 1/4 glass and modify for the sliding window frame.

My main concern is the cowl, and the rust that was always present at the foot vents, most, if not all seams are stuffed. I'm looking at a cowl from a ute (fj/hj 45/47) and wondering if the two would be interchangeable? I'll head back down to the wrecker this week so I can get photos and lay down some ca$h until I can pick it up.

This week I have to concentrate on sanding the 55.

I've been back to the wreckers and the hj45 firewall is in average shape, however, the cowl and all the seams have the same amount of rust as mine. I wasnt able to fold down the windscreen, but the indications were that rust would also be present there.

So, I'm better off keeping that $300

I have come across a FJ40LX tub, which other than some PO holes in the dash and floor, looks to be in fairly good, almost great condition.

My question is, are there any differences between the BJ42LX and FJ40LX firewalls? I'm going to put down a deposit early next week so that he can continue to strip all other components which will give me the opportunity to really check out the underside of the tub.

any help?

Dan

Theo,

It just means a new beginning. I've found a replacement LX tub, and should be putting a deposit down on the weekend, then once it's ready, I'll give the underside a good inspection prior to paying the balance, and take it straight down to get blasted.

That should give me enough time to sort out the 55 that is taking up space in my shed/workshop.

Dan

Hi Dan
The fire FJ fire wall my have a few extra holes the choke cable being one I can think of over the BJ But I would think size wise they would be interchangeable .
Cheers
