Looking to buy an FJ43. Is this legitimate?

If you look at picture 8/25 the bumper looks crooked. Since the bumper bolts to the frame, the frame might be twisted. Also thats a lot of leather covering things that can be very deteriorated or have a verying degree of ware. Im noboddy to talk as everyone said I was crazy to buy the cruiser I have, but it was raw and you saw the flaws up front. This one has just enough small things to make me think twice. Good luck whichever path you choose!

Hey @Chamba
Thanks for your response about the 43 hood. I’ve owned this 43 for 10 years and have been in search of why the Colombians made such a personal modification to individualize their countries 40 Series. I can’t find one! It is obvious that they reworked the hood latches and there are also LC folks who didn’t recognize those alterations until they were pointed out. No, Toyota did not have a separate hood and cowl for the SA market. When I was looking into this hood mod it was just suggested that they used a new hood without the latches. Most likely never the case. Personally I like the 70 series light upgrade!
I’ve had a couple of 40’s but really wanted a 43 and I’m happy I found a good one. This 43 came stateside maybe 8 years before I bought it. It sat in a Texas warehouse. It came before the big rush to export junk to the USA!
Anyways, since owning it I’ve been trying to get as much info on the SA 43 as I can. I appreciate the info you posted here and am open to any info/tech you have to share.

Cheers

If you can afford to spend 5 figures on a LC imported from another continent, you can spend the money for a pre-purchase inspection from a qualified LC business to help you avoid making a mistake

Who is spending that much on out of country LC’s? You can stay in country and spend that much, ie Proffitts!

The one in the original post is priced at $40,000. That is in the five figure range

Oh yea that is 5 figures and that is easy to do!
I was thinking 6 figures I guess and there are many folks spending that without a sweat!
He got it down to 30k. I was going to set up a PPI to decided to post here first 😆😆

Another thing to look for is the serial number on the front right outside of the frame horn, visible when looking at it from the front of the front right side tire. LCs built in Japan will have the VIN stamped in a pretty particular, unique font. LCs assembled in Venezuela will have it stamped in more traditional, basic block style numbers and letters.

Edit: deleted diatribe.

TLDR: I bought one from Colombia in person. It was a nightmare. Just try to find one from the UAE or Saudi. Trust me.
I lived in Riyadh for 4 years. It’s not impossible to find a 43 but they are rare. 43s were mostly military, at least in KSA.
