It started right up and cruised from Charlotte without a sputter....

Cummins Power here I come!

Cool! Potato chips for everyone!

Seriously, those things last forever and have mostly aluminum bodies. Will make a great work truck or mini camper.

What are your plans for it? I have a feeling where the Cummins may be going.

For those who aren't familiar, the engine is a 4bt, 4 cyl turbo diesel. 100 HP, ~300 ft/lb. The plan is to swap the motor into the FJ40 (with a NV4500 behind it), then sell off the rest for scrap, parts, etc.

dieselcruiserhead on this board did a sweet 4bt into a FJ55, and got nearly 30mpg...

I'd love to run veg oil, but will start with the goal of a running, driving, wheeling 4bt cruiser. The power of this motor was impressive, even lugging around a 6000lb+ chip van....

Picked it up off of www.dovebid.com for $1269 after auction fees...

I figure the body, frame, 14bolt rear, etc is worth 1/2 that either as parts or scrap when I'm done.

yep...that's the route i'm goin to go eventually...1200 bucks is a pretty solid deal man...

let us know if you find a decent place to scrap the aluminum

How is it on the freeway? Is that truck governed, and if not realistically at what speed could you cruise at with this engine?

Thanks.

it (the engine) is governed at 2400 rpm, and will run at that speed all day long. How fast that translates to depends on your gearing, tire size, etc. With 35s, stock gears, and an OD tranny, I calculate I'll be doing 70 at 1600 rpm, and could go 90 if I weren't driving a '40. In the van with a 3spd Auto, it topped out around 62mph...
