I'm so happy that I got to make this entire event after thinking I might only have Thursday night at most. My punishment of the 80 was kept to a minimum due to heading outta state directly from Sunday...but I have a feeling I could have thrown pretty much anything at it and drove away golden - even after the Friday night rain, it ran like it was on tracks. It's like it knew... Hell, it even gave me 14.31MPG on the ride north! I've never seen its trip odometer read so high.
I'll have to see if any of my pics turned out. Don't expect much.
The new venue was just phenomenal. It could use a few additions in the 'office' (bathrooms) but the rest of the facility and the choice of field vs canopy camp sites was great. There was so much room to spread out!
My little corner under the trees felt pretty darn secluded even though it had
@forrest5000,
@Comet (and Jay, who were competing to see who's gonna challenge
@Roxx for the snoring championship title), and Christine/John and Joe. I don't know their MUD names but this was their first event outside of a meeting or two. It was actually that way for
@fordoford and some others, too.
On Saturday afternoon there was another showing of the commitment we have to each other and the generosity of our members: A group had gone to Dickey Bell and had an 80 suffer a pretty bad failure. Rafael had just delivered an axle for Anderson and it had the parts necessary for a rather intricate trail repair. Anderson was kind enough to allow his 'new' axle to be scavenged for parts to repair the downed truck. Many people stayed out on that trail from mid-afternoon to almost midnight to contribute what was needed for the repair. And keep in mind that they left during the warm and sunny day but returned in the frigid and windy night. Additionally, since they weren't gonna make dinner, food was boxed and delivered to them on the trail. Their raffle tickets were even brought back and monitored (by an independent 3rd party!) so they could claim what would have rightfully been theirs. I won't name any other names because I don't have them all; someone else should so they can get their glory. There were even many member guests in that group and they all chose to remain with the group rather than return to camp. Good people, each one of them. There was a hell of a cheer in camp as their headlights finally appeared in the field at a time that many people would normally already be asleep by.
Many thanks to the current BOD. This was their first big event that was done from planning to completion under their sole direction. They are to be commended. Well...maybe a beast named Florence had
something to do with it!
