I saw that axle on there the other day, not a bad deal.

I wish you would have bought this thing last year when I still had my 84 4Runner. I had all kinds of parts for those things. A few extra drivetrain parts, 22RE long blocks(not that it matters because of your v-6), and a bunch of other junk.

I wished that I wouldn't have gotten rid of my 4runner, because not only was it well built, but I had a ton of extra parts. I sent them all out with the truck when I sold it. Now I have to start the process all over again.

But think of it this way: The current economy will benefit from you buying all those parts...again. :D.

The process of starting over can be fun, wheelin' and dealin' and what not!:grinpimp:

so where are you with it NOW Jack?
The nice thing for you at least is that most ALL of the parts (barring the crawl box, longs and such) are typically being sold by KIDS looking for some beer money...
I once posted a parts list on CL, and got some responses from folks who had some s*** laying around...

Things are kind of on hold, I will be replacing the headgasket on the landcruiser at the end of this month, so my extra money is going toward that. The headgasket is preventive only, the LC is running great, just don't want any problems in the middle of nowhere. Besides I can get the injectors cleaned up, etc.

Believe me, I am always on the scan for cheap parts. Although, I might have waited too late, it seems like most of the good stuff is already been sold. But I am keeping my eyes open.

I really don't expect to have the truck done this summer, I am gathering parts and it will ready when it's ready. Trying to take my time and find the deals.

Jack

With the economy the way it is you may be finding more and more deals. :frown:

You might be right. For my sake, let's hope.

Hey Jack, I'm just sayin'..........

Trail-Gear Inc > Trail-Link Suspension

Dang, I forgot, THINK CHEAP!!!

Yes, embrace the cheap...I am trying. Though I am finding that by the time I piece everything together, I might be better off buying a full suspension kit (leaf spring) from somone like TG. When I work it out on paper, I am not saving that much money by piecing springs together.

Just they way it is I guess.

Jack

That is cheap for a link set-up. The articulation looks great. Too bad it's from Trail-Mart.

Yeah, I have never bought anything from them, but more and more people are. ORI just finished putting one of their 3 links on a guys mini, and it looks sick!!

I guess it all comes down to where it WORTH cutting the corners and saving some bucks.
I had always thought that the spring kits were pretty cheap for the minis?
I guess now a days that is a relative term...
Are you gonna do the gears yourself?

Spring kits are cheap, depending on which one you buy. You can get a standard 4 inch kit from a decent company from $300 and up. But with higher prices come higher quality.

Case in point:

1979-'85 Extreme Lift

I love minis, and this was the kit I was about to throw down for on my 4Runner......then I got a cruiser........:bounce::bounce2:

Just like everything in automobiles!
Initially, everything seems really straight forward, but when you get into things...
It also seems to depend on what will get you by vs. doing it right the first time. You can redneck engineer most anything to WORK, but questioning the set up thereafter is NOT worth the cost saving IMO. Like running trail fixes as a permanent solution...no good!
In the end, its NOT just YOU who breaks down on the trail. That's the very reason that Ill save up the extra cash to do the tranny RIGHT (to the very best that I know how).
Id LOVE to get a 3rd gen 4 runner, SAS it and build it up. They can be found with blown motors for rather cheap. However, Ive got the BLUE TITANIC to contend with...:meh:

You know, you're kinda slow at this...you did it AGAIN with the LX

Spring kits for minis aren't bad for what you get. That is the problem that I am running into, by the time I source the springs, fix/build them, buy/build the other parts, etc. I am just not saving that much money for something that may or may not work that well.

Sometimes you have to figure what your time is worth. Is it worth my time to save a little money and add tremendously to the headache of it or just buy something that you know will work?

I used Allpro on my 4runner, I was not that happy with it. My runner had a very pronounced passenger side lean that really irritated me. I finally had to put an add a leaf into the spring pack on the rear passenger side to get rid of the lean. I am not the only one that has had that problem with allpro springs. By the way, that picture of John in his 4runner is coming down Surprise Canyon.:D

You have to go with one of the "rock crawling" springs, the "lift" springs kill your articulation and ride like crap.

I agree about doing it right, I have never been and I don't want to be "that" guy. I have always tried to build my rigs to be able to run the hard stuff and not break. So far I have succeeded. I have never broke anything offroad (where is the knock on wood emoticon?). Trail repairs suck.

You know, you're kinda slow at this...you did it AGAIN with the LX

Shaddup you!:flipoff2:

I know I am a retard. Someday, I hope I learn...someday.
