I knew that you should have kept that 4Runner! This will make a great rockcrawling rig though and you probably won't mind denting it as much as you would have with the 4Runner...

Yeah, kicking myself for that one. Even if I would have just parked it until the crawling bug hit, I would have been way better off. But like you said, I really don't care about the body on this one. As long as the doors open/close, the rest is just in the way anyway. :grinpimp:

Dan,

I have had the itch for about 6 months, I just kept talking myself out of it. I really miss Fordyce and Rubicon to some degree.

Just have to make sure everything is up to snuff, before it sees any trail time, I don't want to be that guy.

Think the itch has anything to do with the drip?

I couldn't help myself.

DOH!!!!!
That was a GOOD ONE!

Jack...
When I was trying to goad you into the fordice run for this year, I could SEE the twinkle in your eye, and the gears turning in your noggin!
I frickin cant wait to wheel with you on those runs!
Still would like to do that day run up to Fordice like we were talking about if youd still be up to it. Id love to get my "feet wet" like that before the actual run and just check it out.

That is a GREAT score on that rig.

Hey Jack, embrace the addiction. You've been jones'n for so long. I'm surprised it took you this long. :hillbilly:

Did you hear???? It has a name.....

"Drippy"

No, I didn't name it, but the name sorta fits. I'm sure it won't last past April, so the name will likely change someday.

Actually after using 5 cans of engine degreaser, it's more like a "seeper" than "drippy." Not sure how bad the leaking actually is, it didn't leave an oil spot on my trailer. I didn't get it unloaded until yesterday.

Cool thing, is that after sitting for a couple of days, and getting the crap sprayed out of it at the car wash, it fired right up. So that's a good sign.

Great!

The first time I cleaned the 40 it went from drippy to "heavy flow" I guess the crud was sealing the engine from the outside.

Whatever you do, don't put havoline oil in it. I've found that the off name brands, Havoline, Exxon, etc sometimes cause a seeping gasket to pour. Castrol, Quaker State and Valvoline haven't caused me the same issues.

Do some research. Lots of the buick motors were using rope type main seals till their demise from manufacturing. IF it's got rope seals, use an oil like an SF type. Walmart and a couple others sell oil rated that way, it's marked for 1980 and older vehicles. It has fewer detergents and supposedly an additive that helps the rope seal stay swelled up, but not disintegrating.

Once I get settled, I'll be happy to take that motor apart for you and walk you through the re-ring/gasket/bearing process to have an almost new engine. A little baffling in the pan goes a long way toward keeping those motors alive, also an accumulator. The big deal is that the oil pump is in the front cover and has to suck through a long tube to keep the oil in the pump. Nothing major, it just needs a little help.

A front seal on that tranny will cure that drip on the front driveline, unless it's the cooling lines, and those are an easy fix.

I've also got a full can of carburetor dip you are welcome to use. A gasket kit, a couple days of soaking and it will look like new. Then I've got a book on how to tune them...

Sweet. I might have to take you up on that. I have been thinking about re-gasketing the motor. When I get a few minutes, I am going to check over the cooling lines on the tranny, I think that is where it is seeping, I think I might have to pull the t-case to seal the adapter up also. Someone used a lot of the orange RTV, I have found that the grey stuff works much better on aluminum mating surfaces.

Marlin ships a tube of the gray stuff with Toy boxes.

Not what I expected

I expected something in a shorter wheelbase and maybe square head lights! You know a :censor: YJ!!! Its not to late to come back home. Maybe me and Rick need to have an intervention. These people arent really your freinds, there just enablers. They have problems to and need help, but you need to help yourself 1st. All you have to do is ask for help and were there for yea, but we cant help if you dont want it. You need to take the 1st step.:flipoff2:

Baahhh. Dont look now dude but I think that shepards sneeking up behind you is fixin to make you his girl friend...;)

Believe me, if I could have found the right Jeep, I would have been all over it. I still really want a TJ Unlimited, problem is, they are 15k plus just to buy, don't get me started on what it cost to build one like I would want to.

This way I can get into the rocks like all of the other 20 something year old punks in their cheap toyota and have very little invested. This will allow me to play with very little investment. Or so I hope...:grinpimp:
