Sure is Roma. Made easy work of something I had worried about for a while.

Today @Fern1109 and I spent the whole damn day cleaning up the shop. It’s a whole different place in there now.

Tonight, I mocked up the HF1A shifter. To my surprise, it fit in the HDJ79 adapter plate. I was convinced there was no way it would fit with its seemingly long arc of throw. Those little tapered 10 mm bolts that hold the shifter boot onto the plate are a real pain.

I am definitely going to nutsert the shifter plate down. If I had panel bonded it in place first I really don’t know how I would’ve gotten that all to fit and line up.

Closed cell foam and nutsert tool at the ready. There are even plenty of available holes from where I drilled through with a spot weld cutter…

Too bad I’m out of town this weekend.

Yes, these and others. I have one waiting.

Remains to be seen how bad the difference in transmission and t case shift replacement is on the holes in the HZJ79 floor mat. The R151/split case shifter cutout is smaller and different.

Galen-
Hole for h15x transmission is quite off from the R15x. Onur and I found a factory brown mat I used in the 79 here in the US system (can't find floor mats, but).

If you do not yet have the cup holder bracket, it is identified as a Air Bag sensor bracket. Stedman found the second one I needed for your 74.

Damn, Rick…that’s why you’re one of the OGs.

74 and I are currently road tripping to Marfa.

I love a clean shop.

You decided to take the 74 to Marfa after all? Hell yeah!!!

For those of you who aren’t on Facebook, this happened on the way home from Marfa:

I’m better now.

I got the new injector lines on. It was surprisingly difficult Tetris. This YouTube screen grab made it easier.

Today was another day of fixing Past Me’s mistakes. I lost the FT accelerator cable bracket.

It is totally different than the 1HZ/1HDT bracket, which mounts to the side of the intake. Here are a couple of screen grabs of my HDJ80 with an FT.

Here is the 1HDT bracket.

Additionally, if you want to run a front mount intercooler with a forward facing intake elbow, you need to include the grid heater to get the elbow above the cable and linkage. I tried to come up with every possible way to mount this thing, and the only way that I could make this work was to modify the 1HDT bracket by cutting a hole off of it and fitting it into a slot into the side of the grid heater.

Black line demonstrates where I had to slot the grid heater.

Lots of meat to work with; shouid easily accept a cutoff wheel to make a 2.5mm slot? Right?

Almost.

I juuuuust sliced into the inside of the heater.

Faaaack.

After a little grinding and bending, it actually fit as designed. The 1HZ/HZJ79 cable seems short, but not terrible. 80 cables do not seem to be available. The cable clears everything but will need to be nudged away from the oil fill cap when adding oil. If anyone knows of another active part number for a longer cable, please let me know.

I will take the grid heater guts out of the aluminum body, and have a friend TIG those little holes shut. Then I’ll clean the heater element really well, vapor hone the outside, and throw some high temperature JB Weld in there and it will all work out. Longer bolts and studs are on their way.

@Fern1109 is a lifesaver. His paint and body work is awesome. He welded up the crack in the drivers floor pan. We fitted the front inner fenders and started to mess with cab and body mount height.

New stock 80 mounts (#3 if you look at the parts diagrams) were too tall. We moved stuff around and mixed in some energy suspension pucks and have a tentative fit. Fan is in the fan shroud, not perfectly concentric, but in.

New 12 and 8.5mm fuel line arrived. Lots to do!
